In the Christian tradition there are several reasons. Jesus mentions those who give up marriage and family for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 19:12). Paul also makes mention of celibacy in 1 Corinthians 7:8, 32-35, 38. This is part of the reason for celibacy in the Christian tradition. Priests, religious, and laypersons that remain unmarried with no children are free to give their all to the service of God and their faith family. The idea of sacrifice is also closely connected to celibacy. If one studies the Scriptures, one will notice that only the very best is to be sacrificed or given to God. Since sexuality is a good thing, it makes it a fitting and worthy thing to sacrifice for God.
It is a part of their vows and sacrifices, if one accepts the vocation then he is also ready to make the sacrifices.
