    VOLUNTEER WORK for CINEMANILA
If you want to meet interesting people, see award-winning foreign
films and get your adrenaline pumping from working at a crazy
festival pace, volunteer for the 8th Cinemanila International Film

The 3rd Edition of the International Experimental Film Festival Ca˜rbunari 2006’
    F.I.F.E. CAËśRBUNARI 2006

The International Experimental Film Festival is dedicated exclusively to sustain and promote the experimental films.

We consider the experimental film one of the most interesting expression form of the contemporary art. The interest brought of the public by the numerous showing of the films on outside of the festival “oblige” us to change the classical approaching point of the experimental film festival and we decided to change the regulation, so that any other compulsion to be eliminated. So, we eliminate the attendance fee for participation and the jury who decide the prizes. Most of the film critics, artists and the normal art consumers considered that are more important the viewing of the creations in the experimental film domain that a subjective top made by awarding. The immixture of a jury in a festival bring automatically an acceptation of a value perception of opera which can be artificial in some cases. Every experimental film has a justification only when is not a subject of an official analyze or any other preset value criteria.

All the films sent to Florean Museum will be the museum’s property, including all copyrights and use, excluding the commercial use.

The Florean Museum’s experimental film collection is a reference point of the contemporary experimental film and is available to everyone to study the phenomenon.

For this reason all the films will be introduced on the museum’s site: http://www.cmc. ro <http://www.cmc. ro/> according to a format which doesn’t permit a commercial exploitation, only the artistic one.

The films will be accompanied by the artist’s CV. There are no enrolling papers needed.

The number of works you can participate with is unlimited.

All the sent films will be projected at the festival.

There there is no preliminary selection, because we consider all preliminary selection a censorship act that is inadmissible in the domain of art.

All the films must arrive to FLOREAN MUSEUM before September 15th, 2006 at the following address:

    MUZEUL FLOREAN

    P.O. Box 1 Of. Postal 9

    430510 Baia Mare

    ROMANIA

Films will be accepted only on DVD’s , PAL system (for exceptions please consult the festival’s director Mr. Mircea Bochis at : bochis@cmc.ro <mailto:bochis@ cmc.ro> ).

The festival will take place in Baia Mare between the 15th –17th of october 2006 .

After the festival all the films will be showed weekly for one year at a TV Station which dedicated one of they emission to the experimental film. The films will be itinerated on cultural ways according with the preset projects.

For any kind of information please contact the festival’s director Mr. Mircea Bochis at: bochis@cmc.ro <mailto:Bochis@cmc.ro>

Sending the films in order to attend the festival represents the acceptance of this regulation.

    Default MMFF launches digi-docu contest

THE Executive Committee of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has launched a digital documentary competition dubbed “Evolution … Revolution ng Pelikulang Pilipino.”

The contest has two categories, tackling two topics: history of Philippine cinema and history of the MMFF.

In a letter addressed to media, Bayani Fernando, chair of the Metro Manila Development Authority which runs the MMFF, said the competition’s goal is “to increase the level of public awareness on the MMFF and Filipino movies in general.”

Tasked as project implementers are representatives of the original beneficiaries of the film festival: Ric Camaligan, president of Movie Industry Anti-Piracy Organization; Leo Martinez, director general of Film Academy of the Philippines; and Boots Anson-Roa, executive director of Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund).

In a phone interview, Roa told Inquirer Entertainment that the contest is Fernando’s brainchild.

“This was made possible through his initiative. He wants to make the MMFF open to independent filmmakers and documentarians by encouraging them to participate in the annual December event. At the same time, we are highlighting the histories of the MMFF and local movie industry,” Roa said.

The new contest aims to “promote independent short films and documentaries alongside the mainstream and commercial fare usually seen during the MMFF,” Roa added.

The contest is open to all Filipinos, except to Execom members and their relatives (first degree of consanguinity). The digital filmmakers can submit entries in the following formats: straight documentary, docu-drama or docu-musical (music video), with maximum running time of 20 minutes.

Among the requirements are: list and profile of the artistic team; synopsis; copy of script or sequence treatment; budget breakdown; technical and creative staff/cast information; distribution or dissemination plan.

Deadline for submission of requirements is last week of September. Winners are to be announced in the MMFF awards show on Dec. 29.

Roa said Fernando had suggested that the grand prizes for each category be increased from P500,000 to P800,000.

“We will also be awarding four honorable mention prizes that come with P50,000 each for the two categories. That’s P2 million in total. As bonus, the two winning docus will be blown up to 35mm film, to be shown in theaters along with the MMFF entries,” she said.

From 1993 to 1994, the MMFF similarly came out with a short-film component, under the auspices of Mowelfund. Among the short films produced then were: Emanuel Davidas’ “Anak Maynila,” Nick Deocampo’s “Isaak,” Luis Quirino’s “Pasakalye,” Joey and Roby Agbayani’s “Ang Bantay.”
