What can you say about too much 'Pinoy Pride'?

Rant thread or not, the purpose of this thread, bay, is to know your different views of too much Pinoy pride hence the title. I thought it was worth mentioning to some Pinoys who might also have the same perception. So far, I was right. If you review the thread, most people seem to agree.

And I agree. You thought right -- it was worth mentioning.

Question is: Now what? You have your confirmation -- 10 out of 12 people agree with you. What are you going to do with that information? Will you sleep better at nights now that you know you were "right" about us Filipino and our current mentality of "Pinoy Pride"?

We as a people need change to take place, and it has to come from the new generation.

Sadly, wala na tay mabuhat ana. Its just the same as posting the countless threads here about the government, politics, our city, blablabla.

Why man walay mabuhat? You create this thread, stir the pot and have a lot of people agreeing with you and then say "tsk tsk tsk... wa na tay mabuhat ana".

It sounded at first like you wanted to change things -- to bring on reform, to free the oppressed, etc. But in the end you say "wa tay mabuhat ana". Not the sort of climax some of us were hoping for.

I'm just saying some of us are a wee bit disappointed. You younger generation guys need to see the potential in you that you can effect change to our society.

Its just as simple as saying I observed many Filipinos are too proud of the achievement of others while there is yet to be something we can be proud of as a nation. I am a proud Cebuano but that does not apply here because we are talking about Filipino pride. EDSA makes me proud to be a Filipino, but what else can we be proud of?

There you go again -- painting a dark and hopeless picture of the Filipino people, and we do not really appreciate that. Wa jud kay laing nakita diha sa imong area na makapa-proud nimo as a Filipino?

I hope someday there will still be something we can be proud of that can actually help improve our present situation.

it would have been better too if we show that kind of pride when there actually is something we have accomplished as a nation because its not like other countries dont have their share of singers or boxers.

Hoping is one thing. We need action. To accomplish something as a nation comes from a single point of origin -- it takes just a spark -- one person, to inspire a group. Achievements are borne out of inspiration mainly because it entails a lot of hard work. It goes without saying na when you are inspired you feel you can accomplish a lot!

This is what you are asking someone else to do. Why can it not start from you?

PS - the last question is rhetoric, no need to answer that. Can't really help it if that's how you and a large percentage of the members here looking at things. Maybe this is what is pulling down our economy?

And in parting, I would like to say that iStorya.net is open to the entire planet and people from other countries can read what we post here. I am just concerned that we here in iStorya may have painted a more depressing picture of the Filipino people than anywhere else in the internet.

But then other races don't give a shit, right? So why would we?

i beg to disagree with you here bai, especially the part "..while there is YET to be something we can be proud of as a nation.." there has been moments in our country's history that WE CAN BE PROUD OF, People Power is a prime example of that. and also the fact that if you search online the Philippines is among the top 10 nation that has a level playing field for women, meaning equal rights, equal treatments among male and females (in my books that amounts to something) most likely di kaayo na nato ma-appreciate na fact kay we live it everyday and thus way pake. but compare it to other nation

sad thought. pero honestly, i remain hopeful for change baya. i just wanted to point out something which i think is sad sa atong society. hopefully lang naa juy change mahitabo nga makaproud natong mga pinoy soon enough like EDSA. i dont want to expect too much lang because we know what happens when people keep expecting.
