ayya: can u give me tips on how to start as private tutor to koreans? i am interested. unsay gamit nimo books? naa kay hatag nila hand outs? thanks!!
hi peeps..
had experience working as Korean Instructor, actually ESL (English as Second Language) Instructor na cya.. Worked with CPILS (d one in MJ Cuenco) and CG tutorial(Talamban-Cabancalan). You don't really need to have American Accent.. just Effective English Communication Skills.. When I applied well i was a bit comfy of mah skills since i was fresh out from a callcenter way back May.. (and it helped to be confident but modest in answering, of course..)almost all the time during any job interview.
But you know what.. you really don't need to be that good.. any college grad or undergrad can teach. Koreans only know the basic, some even forget their basic English lessons so sometimes you have to start from scratch like teaching grade 1 studes... Well then again it depends but the vast majority of koreans coming in the country are beginner students.. some are elementary or pre-intermediate level with Advanced as the highest that is they have very good conversational, writing, hearing and reading skills . There are levels depending on the categories that the school terms it. When i was there.. me and mah fellow Instructors would joke ourselves na 'natay-an na' because you won't speak the way you answer in the callcenter or speak at moderate speed.. sometimes you'll be surprised you yourself speak badly mimicking their accent! you have to slow down your speaking just in the same level of your stude..it is like elementary teaching...but you just need to slowly increase your speaking speed rate as your studes become used to your level of speaking.
So you have to inquire if the school you wanna apply accepts part-time because some prefer full-time nowadays.. it's a job market naman gud and there are many korean studes na. Only a few will admit part-timers.. CPILS i'm not sure but in rare cases there are part time Instructors at night but then again they wouldnt prioritize you coz there are volunteer Instructors who are full-timers still on the go to earn extra bucks at night..
So it is good as suggested by another poster to do private tutorial... you can start by P100 per hour depending on your agreement. you just need to look out in the ads and or from connections..
hope i helped...
