That's the problem. The juvenile delinquent
is the hardened criminal. Almost all of them have prior criminal records, as illustrated by that kid who shot the contractor last week. All of them start at a young age, learning as they grow up that the law is actually on their side.
But allow me to say this though: It's not true that criminals have more rights than the victims. Just because you stand up for the HUMAN right of a criminal does not mean you think he is innocent. He will still be sent to jail, but what is sought to be prevented is a senseless beating done by a mob (which for all we know consists of fellow criminals who had nothing to do that day and decided to join in on the attack to prevent detection). Of course when the criminal gets mob-attacked he should have seen it coming before he went through with it, but that's not the point.
Here's my problem with human rights groups. They move heaven and earth for the accused (who's often poor) to have legal assistance. Where were they when the blue-collar victim needed it? Kasakit anang ikaw pay biktima, ikaw pay makakita sa nanulis nimu na gibuhian kay wa kay kwarta pang saka ug kaso.
As for beatings, I wouldn't call them senseless. I think it speaks of how helpless people feel when crime is concerned. Beatings are the only instance when victims can get even. Not once have I heard of someone standing up for the stranger who got mugged. Never. It's because we're all scared. And the criminals know it.
The police don't care, kapila nako niadto ug presinto only to be disappointed.
