para nako cebu
my career is in cebu, my heart is in davao.. waaaaaaaaaa tabang! hahaha
I've been in Davao before...
Pero I still returned to Cebu... it is where my heart and soul is.
Why don't you visit Cebu now? See for it yourself? Ask the businessmen. They'll tell you the same thing. That among ALL the cities outside the national capital, Metro Cebu is the undisputed most progressive cities. Wala man mi hawan nga lasang diri gud. Sorry to say this but ang ABREEEZA sa Davao is wala ra sa kumingking sa Ayala Center Cebu aesthetically speaking and ACC is inside a business park. You don't even have an I.T park as saturated as AITP. You'll probably boast of the expansion of SM Ecoland and the new SM Lanang? Shall I present to you the render of SM NAUTILUS? And the new Northwing of SM City Cebu?
FYI I don't even consider Davao a metropolis yet. Hahaha! Unsa diay metropolis nato? Mga balay nga tagsa ka kilometro kalagyo? Urban concentrations nga gabulag-bulag and an area of JUNGLES? IMO, from Tagum City to Panabo City to Davao City, bisag kamo pa mismo ang muadto layo ra kaayo sa Metro Cebu. Let me make an example, say, from Lapu - Lapu City to Mandaue City to Cebu City. Compare Tagum with Lapu - Lapu, Panabo City with Mandaue and Davao City with Cebu City? Let the other posters judge. You'll know the difference. hahaha! magkatawa nalang ko nimo doh. How much day-dreaming do you need to see the reality?
Unsa na imong gipanulti? DAVAO is the 4th of the Top 10 BPO destinations in the Philippines? SAONA RA ANG CEBU ANA DOH! Murag stone age pamo ana kami IRON AGE nah. Top 1 sa NEXT WAVE CITIES? hala ka diha? Have you read the ranking of Tholons?
here.......

88. Sta. Rosa - Aspiring

Kitams? Asa ang Davao diha? number 69? ahahah! ASPIRING BPO CITY. Cebu is an ESTABLISHED BPO CITY just like METRO MANILA. And we're in THE TOP TEN IN THE WORLD! Where are you? Nowhere even in the top 50. Ok simple math; 69 - 9 = YOU NEED TO BEAT 60 MORE GLOBAL CITIES to catch up with Cebu! hahaha!
here's more.......
Cebu City still No. 1 ‘emerging BPO site’

Cebu City once again clinched the top spot in the latest Global Services and Tholons survey on the top 50 “emerging global outsourcing destinations” worldwide.
The 2009 survey listed Cebu as No. 1 based on scale and quality of workforce, infrastructure, business catalyst, risk profile, cost and quality of life.
This is the second time Cebu City ranked first in the survey, which has been running since 2007. Cebu ranked fourth in the first survey and later climbed to the first spot in 2008.
However, in the big picture of top global outsourcing sites, Indian cities occupy the top three slots - Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai - followed by Manila or NCR (National Capital Region).
Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano, in an interview, said this victory is another positive development for tourism as it creates a multiplier effect.
“More BPOs opening in the Philippines will mean more young people will be employed. This, in turn, will boost domestic travel as the young people of the country today are the ones exploring the (different places in the) country,” he told Cebu Daily News in a text message.
Tourism Undersecretary Phineas Alburo said the result “greatly enhances the image of Cebu as an island of talented and hardworking people.” this positive image, he said, will encourage tourists to continue visiting the city.
Jun Saa, vice president for operations of Robinland Inc., said the challenge for Cebu is to continuously improve itself to attract more investments.
The company’s Robinland Information Technology/Business Process Outsourcing (IT/BPO) is located at the Mandaue Reclamation Area
With a booming infrastructure base, Saa said the best asset to improve on is the workforce quality and quantity. He also cited the readiness of middle managers in carrying out more complicated roles, which poses a challenge for most BPO companies based in the city.
“We lack talents in this area. Since this is a (relatively) young industry, we lack experienced people to handle the jobs of middle managers,” said Saa.
He said the shortfall can be addressed through further training and education, and more strategic industry-academe linkage.
He said a concrete example is the recent initiative of the Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (Cedf-IT) in bringing to Cebu training modules from Harvard University to facilitate online learning of managers from BPO companies.
He said the latest survey will hopefully encourage more investments to pour into Cebu.
Wilson Ng, Ng Khai chief executive officer, said it was good for Cebu to have maintained the top rank for two years in a row.
“For sure that will be a boost to Cebu's reputation as the place to be,” Ng said in a text message to CDN.
Ng said that Cebu is strong in customer service orientation, and adaptability to English languages, primarily in the ability to speak “American” English .
“We also have an attitude that endears us to customers.”
Ng, however, said that Cebuanos need to improve in basic education, quality of English and information technology instructions.
“The take up rate of applicants still can be improved,” he said.
“I believe what some BPOs are saying, that we are weak in middle management. This is due mainly to the brain drain, where people who have more than 5 years experience can, and usually migrate abroad, leaving us with a weak middle management layer,” he added.
Ng also suggested that entrepreneurs can continue training programs and continue to market Cebu properly as well as continue to boost s skills, attitudes and confidence to help maintain Cebu's reputation as the best emerging city for BPOs.
Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Sam Chioson said that the organization is glad that combined efforts of the private and government sector are paying off in putting Cebu at the forefront of the BPO industry.
“As our vibrant BPO industry has cushioned us from the effects of the global economic crisis, we expect that this accolade will further help boost the Cebu economy as more IT players take a second look at Cebu as an ideal location for their businesses.”
He said more locators mean more jobs and new opportunities for related businesses.
This is the third year that industry publication, Global Services and strategic investment advisory firm, Tholons published detailed analysis on the world’s top 50 emerging outsourcing destinations.
In its website, Tholons said an 80-page detailed report on the 2009 results will be published by the end of October.
Following Cebu in second and third places are the cities of Shanghai and Beijing of the People’s Republic of China, which also retained the same ranking as last year’s.
The cities of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam and Krakow in Poland also remained in fourth and fifth places.
We are competing with cities like Bangalore, New Delhi, Kuala Lumpur, New York and London. Mao lage na, ayaw palabii ang pagkahambogero kung ang basis nimo dili man sad better sa usa. hahah!
here's another one..........
Cebu is most competitive city outside NCR
CEBU CITY has bested 28 other cities outside the National Capital Region (NCR) in a competitiveness listing drawn up by the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center (APC) to prod local governments to improve.
Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Dagupan, Tacloban, San Fernando in La Union, Ormoc, Bacolod, Zamboanga, and Puerto Princesa rounded out the top 10 list, which was released yesterday.
The ranking used indicators measuring a local economy’s dynamism, responsiveness to business needs, infrastructure, quality of life, cost of doing business and human resources, and was based on hard 2008 data and a survey of 60 entrepreneurs per city conducted in the last quarter of 2009.
The APC declined to provide a complete ranking of the 29 cities, highlighting instead development gaps among three brackets: emergent cities, growth and metropolitan growth centers.
The emergent cities had an average local government income of P600 million, the APC found, half of what growth centers enjoyed and a just a fifth compared to that of metropolitan growth centers.
Dagupan was the deemed most competitive among the emergent cities, which included San Fernando in La Union, Santiago, Tuguegarao, Angeles, Lucena, Puerto Princesa, Naga, Legaspi, Tacloban, Ormoc, Pagadian, Iligan, Tagum, Cotabato, Butuan and Surigao.
Cagayan de Oro, meanwhile, led the other growth centers Baguio, Olongapo, Batangas, Iloilo, Bacolod, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Zamboanga, and General Santos.
Among the metropolitan growth centers, Cebu bested Davao.
Aside from the disparity in incomes among the three city brackets, the APC report highlighted a claimed inaccessibility of formal financing and business organizations to small enterprises, said to be prevalent among emergent cities.
This should allow policy-makers to get down to the nitty-gritty of barriers to competitiveness as it magnifies the problems down to the local level, APC Executive Director Lourdes A. Sereno said at the event.
"The reason why we usually don’t have specific action steps is because we tend to aggregate things on the national level," Ms. Sereno said.
"Patterns in the data suggest that information is lost when you aggregate. You will not be able to give due recognition to certain initiatives."
Metro Manila, Ms. Sereno said, was not included in the list as it was hard to differentiate the performance of its cities as they shared infrastructure and services.
"It might also obscure the dynamic conditions outside the capital," Ms. Sereno said.
Commenting on the report, Local Government Undersecretary Austere A. Panadero said it would be used in the department’s planning efforts, especially as the state agency is studying how to reward top performing cities.
"The attainment of development outcomes will determine the flexibility of authority and incentives [that will be granted to certain local governments]," Mr. Panadero said at the event.
Top local governments could be given more power to appoint officials for the school system or treasury, for instance, while funding rewards could also be allocated to model governments, Mr. Panadero later told reporters at the sidelines. A policy to lay down this merit system should be ready within the month, he said.
The APC went on to recognize cities that did well in three of the six indicators and in other categories as well.
In terms of dynamism of the local economy, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Angeles topped their respective city brackets.
For infrastructure, the best performing cities per bracket were Cebu, General Santos, and Dagupan.
Davao was deemed as offering the best quality of life alongside Olongapo in the growth center grouping, with San Fernando and Butuan which were tied among the emergent cities.
Davao again bagged the top honors for a special award recognizing cities most supportive of micro, small and medium enterprises. It was joined by Batangas and San Fernando.
