X-rays negative on Nowitzki's right wrist

DALLAS _ The Dallas Mavericks and their fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief.

In Monday's game against Cleveland, All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki jammed his right wrist late in the first quarter and was in obvious pain. Nowitzki had the wrist taped and returned to the game, but was fairly ineffective.

X-rays taken on Nowitzki's wrist were negative.

"His wrist is sore, but he went through practice today,'' coach Rick Carlisle said. "The signs are positive that he's going to be OK.''

Against the Cavaliers, Nowitzki tallied just 12 points, collected six rebounds and had a game-high five turnovers. He also was 5 of 11 from the field.

The 12 points were Nowitzki's lowest since he tallied just seven against Memphis on Jan. 15 in his first game after returning from a sprained right knee. But he played only 15 minutes against the Grizzlies before getting ejected early in the third quarter.

Carlisle doesn't remember the 12-game win streak

DALLAS _ That 12-game winning streak the Dallas Mavericks strung together earlier this season was so long ago that coach Rick Carlisle said: "I don't even remember that one.''

For the record, from Nov. 20-Dec. 11 the Mavs won 12 straight games. That includes victories over six teams with a winning record -- at home against Miami and Utah, and on the road against Atlanta, Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Utah.

The Mavs will carry a nine-game winning streak into tonight's 9 o'clock game at Sacramento. Only three of those victories were over teams with a winning record -- at Boston and at New York, and at home against Atlanta.

Carlisle, though, is not concentrating on putting long winning streaks together. He's got bigger issues he's trying to tackle.

"Really, right now it's important for us to focus on the things that are really important for us to be successful,'' Carlisle said. "And that's our core things – defense, rebounding efficiency -- and to keep working on our health.

"We don’t take anything for granted. We understand that hard work equals success, and we’re going to keep working.''
