Cory: Stay Young Forever

SHE exudes ageless beauty. A wellness and health icon, Socorro Alicia Rastrollo Quirino or Cory Quirino continues to live up to her mission to be an advocate of health, beauty and wellness.
“It’s been my passion to create awareness and help educate people about health, beauty and wellness,” starts Cory during an interview at the launching of Acai Berry, a natural super fruit she’s currently endorsing.
Since I997 when her book Forever Young was published, Cory espouse the health, beauty, and wellness advocacy.
“There’s no magic pill or a magic bullet that can address all our illnesses or health challenges because it’s a holistic, total approach to wellness,” explains Cory who looks younger than her age.
According to Cory, the real secret is to live a healthy lifestyle is “to exercise every day, eat a lot of fruits and vegetable, manage our stress, think about positive things, be a loving person and have a healthy and cheerful heart. That’s I think is the total approach to wellness.”
Healthy regimen
Since Cory found the formula for healthy lifestyle, the health icon makes sure that she goes to the gym every day. As she ages, she increases the length of time she workout at least one and a half hour a day.
“Actually there’s no change in the regimen except that you have to exert greater effort because you do not burn the fat as efficiently as you did 20 years ago,” she explains.
“Unless you have a regimen that is very high in cardiovascular activity like aerobics class where you can burn 600 calories.”
To maintain her weight she does treadmill 30 to 45 minutes every day. “In short, that’s equivalent to three kilometers of walk every day that is 200 to 250 calories loss every day,” she adds.
If she wants to lose weight, she increases her workout time.
“I always have my gym bag ready in my car so that in between meetings, I rush to the gym,” Cory says and confesses that she scold herself whenever she was not able to exercise.
Natural beauty
“I am not against cosmetic surgery but there are some women who thinks that if they will have face lift every two years they can delay the aging process. Wrong, the only way to delay the aging process is to embrace a wellness lifestyle. And that’s what I’m teaching whenever I’m invited to talk—to seek the natural way and that is
But she’s also open to the possibilities of cosmetic surgery in the future.
“You cannot fight gravity, may be one day I will consider,” she admits.
For now, I’m happy using just ultrasound, radio frequency and anything that can lift you or hold you up but the best is still wellness lifestyle.
Healthy diet
“Fifty percent of my diet are fruits and vegetables but I also eat fish because I am an Ilocana,” she smiles but quickly adds that she prefers steamed and grilled fish than fried fish.
She also recommends the following healthy tips:
Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. Start the day with raw vegetables and fruits in the morning.
“By eating fruits and vegetables, you packed your body with natural enzymes that will help you process the food you will eat to have energy. When you cook the food, you consume less energy for the body.”
It’s better to get your sugar from fruits and vegetables during breakfast and lunch.
Don’t snack on sweets like ensaymada or cheesecake alone during snacks. Eat snacks like lumpiang ubod and lumpiang sariwa before eating sweets because if you do so, your brain will tell you to eat sweets again after 20 minutes. “Sweets are addictive,” she warned.
Don’t deprive yourself from eating but avoid beef.
Make sure to have zero carbohydrates in the evening.
