Thread: Sinulog 2011

yo sir Mark, I'm a 90% PP hobbyist in my photography. for me no questions on post-processing presenting your photos. but in the sinulog contest its really different, lahi ang among expectation as mga newbie for photo-contest. kung mo required of RAW (NEF or i dont know sa Canon and others) amo i expect ana very very minor processing. meaning 95-99% closer sa imong RAW file. very very minor means a little saturation, sharpening, exposure correction... pero kung ang imong image kay nahimo na ug canvass or mora na ug Dave Hill/Lucis Art effect maypa nag submit sad kog Artistic HDR

Tanan newbie man siguro diri ng expect ug minor processing gyud ang isubmit. and we know sa mga ni apil sad naay mga Event photograpers naay mga experienced sad photographers and they are also into Post processing from Conceptual to Portraiture pero minor ra ilang gi apply nga PP sa mga gi submit

If we look at the photos nga gi exhibit na naay mga nka daog nga without PP or kung naa very obvious nga minor gyud kaayo pero (and im proud of those people ha, specially sa mga nailhan nako diri hehehe) pero kanang mga nka daog nga obvious sad kaayo nga nahimong Dave Hill then morag di sad kaayo fair ang ma feel from others di ba?

dili ko against sa Post processing.. i love PP

Ever wonder why in the pre-digital photography era only the rich photographers become famous? It’s because they have the monopoly of post processing in their own darkrooms. If you’re aware of the existing global market for digital photos in the web, there’s now more demand for digitally processed photos. And if you want to become a priced professional photographer nowadays, digital processing is your game. Come to think of it, it’s actually an advantage for the young generation who are more inclined to the computer age than the ‘older’ even more experienced photographers. So then if you’re young, take PP as your challenge.

But then again, it's still a game of chance. Who knows the next batch of judges will now prefer minor processing over the highly processed ones? It's part of the game...

No post(s) to comment how the 2011 Sinulog winning photos were "photo-shopped" or "heavily edited" like some comments on the winning entries in the Sinulog 2010.

Or do we have to wait for the Sinulog 2012 thread to be started for these to come out ... in the third or last quarter of the year 2011.

    your prayer is now answered

Michael, I’m with you in the minor processing thing. Although the line between the raw and processed picture is difficult to set. Nothing has been said about the 95 to 99% comparison to the original. When they say ‘creative cropping’ is allowed, that’s helluva lot more than 95%. More often than not, the Dave Hill effect needs finesse, not to mention highly overused. Though it’s not an assurance that the judges will like your photo. Can you imagine how many over processed photos were submitted (out of more than 14,000 entries) that didn’t make it? But if you can do it and you think it’s a worth the chance, why not? Well, some guys took that chance, and made it. Again, it’s still a game of chance.

mao gyud sir... and some made a magic add more(not just colors but object) sa photos but still made it... meaning no cross checking sa RAW right?
