Mahag bag-o lang that they went to several losses, now their going for several wins napud. Dirk is back, lahi jud if you have your Superstar maka hawa ang iya confidence.

With how Dirk has been playing he deserves to be in the All-Star, I was thinking of Dirk or Pao to replace Yao sa All-Star. I'm not sure if they already name ang replacement but hopefully not Bynum.

Mavs respond to Rick Carlisle's rant

DALLAS – He had the timing right, but Rick Carlisle really needs to work on his clipboard-slamming technique.

“If you’re going to throw it down, you’ve got to break it,” big man Tyson Chandler said. “You’ve got to go hard or go home.”

Chandler was kidding around after the Mavericks’ 102-92 win over the lottery-bound Washington Wizards, but there certainly wasn’t anybody laughing in the Dallas huddle during the timeout early in the second quarter.

Carlisle was disgusted by Dallas’ play at that point. And rightfully so. They trailed a team that hasn’t won on the road by nine points and didn’t seem to have any sense of urgency about the situation.

“I was pissed, really as pissed as I’ve been all year,” Carlisle said, adding that the source of his anger was the “losing brand of basketball” the Mavericks were playing.

Carlisle didn’t get into specifics about what he said during that heated discussion. Nor did any of the Mavericks. That’s just as well, considering the high probability that many of the words weren’t suitable for print.

The important thing is that the Mavs got the message. They responded by outscoring the Wizards by 10 the remainder of the quarter to take a halftime lead and finished off the four-game homestand with a flawless record.

Conventional wisdom is that an NBA coach has only a limited number of rants per season before they lose their effectiveness. If they’re used too often, players tend to tune them out, which is what happened with Avery Johnson at the end of his tenure in Dallas.

Several Mavs acknowledged that Carlisle chose a good time for this one, with the Mavs going through the motions against a bad team.

“We don’t want to make him use them, but when he does, we know what it means,” Jason Terry said. “We responded well.”

Added Chandler: “We know coach is a passionate guy and wants us to win. If that’s the way he’s feeling at the time, if he feels like we’re not giving a valid effort or our mental focus isn’t there, he’s got the right to do that.”

That sort of display can backfire on a coach if the players sense that he’s screaming to satisfy his own ego. That isn’t the case with Carlisle, who didn’t seem comfortable discussing the situation with the media but wanted to make something clear.

“The reason I was pissed is because I care about these guys. I believe in what we can be,” Carlisle said. “I’m going to tell them what’s on my mind. I’m going to tell them what’s right and they can disagree if they want to, but I’m all about trying to help them win. Right now, that’s all this is about.”

Mavericks' release of Pavlovic had to happen

DALLAS -- All the Dallas Mavericks wanted when they released forward Sasha Pavlovic this past Saturday was flexibility.

That's what owner Mark Cuban said before Monday's game against Washington.

Since the Mavs will activate guard Rodrigue Beaubois and forward Peja Stojakovic at some point this season -- maybe next week -- Cuban wanted to keep his options open.

"We just want the flexibility,'' Cuban said. "There's a risk (Pavlovic) gets picked up by somebody else, but if he doesn't we'll still have that option (to sign him).

"We like him, but hopefully Roddy and Peja gets back soon and then he'll just be on the inactive list. If we end up needing (Pavlovic), then hopefully he hasn't been picked up and then we'll sign him then.''

Cuban explained that: "With Roddy and Peja back -- whenever that happens -- we're going to already have to put somebody on the inactive list. So there's no point in having somebody not to play.

"The flexibility is there if somebody gets hurt. And if there's a trade opportunity or a buyout opportunity.''
By the way, Cuban compares the eventual addition of Stojakovic and Beaubois to a move the Texas Rangers made last season.

"Hopefully they'll both be our Cliff Lee,'' Cuban said. "We'll have to adjust to having them here, but in a good way, because it makes our team better.''

First, Cuban wants to make sure center Tyson Chandler will be named Thursday to the Western Conference All-Star team as one of the seven reserves. Or as a replacement for the injured Yao Ming.
Yao's replacement falls solely in the hands of NBA commissioner David Stern.

"I sent an e-mail to the league saying in the event you need to consider other options for center for the Western Conference All-Stars, please consider our world championship team member and all-around good guy, Tyson Chandler,'' Cuban said. "I called [Stern] and I said, 'Yo, what's up homeboy? You don't know my boy, TC, top cat?'"

Cuban noted that Chandler is the major reason the Mavs' defense has been so strong this season.

"There's a lot of guys on teams where the opposing coaches can't even pronounce their name, or don't know their number,'' Cuban said. "You can't say that about Tyson.

Chandler's ankle OK, ready to tackle Amare

Tyson Chandler suffered a tweak to his right ankle late in the third quarter Monday night against Washington, but he reported Tuesday that the injury is not serious.

"Actually, it's feeling better than I thought it would,'' he said. "I thought it might swell up more. But it's OK.''

It's a good thing, because Chandler figures to get the bulk of the duty on New York's Amare Stoudemire Wednesday night when the Mavericks visit the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

"I'm going to take the best four or five every night,'' said Chandler, referring to the top offensive threat from the opponents' center or power forward. "That's what I'm here for. Amare's been incredible. He plays with passion every night.''

Chandler, by the way, believes Stoudemire must be included on the short list of MVP candidates. And part of the reason is that he's revived one of the NBA's most important franchises into relevancy.

"He should definitely be considered,'' Chandler said. "He's elevated them to a whole new level after they've struggled. And that's a team in our league - the Knicks, the Lakers, the Celtics - you want to see those teams do well. And for years, the Knicks haven't done well. For Amare to go back there and restore the tradition, you got to give him a lot of credit.''

Even though the Mavericks hope to keep the Knicks from being great on Wednesday, Carlisle couldn't agree more when it comes to Stoudemire's play this season. After all those seasons with Phoenix, he's been even better with New York after getting reunited with coach Mike D'Antoni.

"I can't imagine an MVP conversation right now that didn't include Amare Stoudemire's name,'' Carlisle said. "Both statistically and how he's revitalized their franchise and their fan base and what he's contributed in terms of winning. He's a load to deal with. We know it better than anybody.

"He's going to have some kind of advantage on virtually everybody he goes against. If you put a smaller, quicker guy on him, he's got a size advantage. If you put a bigger guy on him, he's going to have a quickness advantage. His jump shot sets up his drive game and his drive game sets up his jump shot. There isn't a weakness in his offensive game.''
