I'd just like to share my experience last Jan 15. We shoot at the fluvial and we were at the mactan bridge around 4am. Earlier that any other photographer (on the bridge area lang ha) siguro because we didn't see anyone else on the bridge except for 3 other spectators. we finished up at around 8am I think. Headed for Jollibee AS fortuna for breakfast, rest for awhile. Then went straight to the Basilica. We staked out the spot right above the altar but Mikhail was already there. Around 10am it was really hot in the area. We can no longer go back out because they already closed the gates so our water supply were limited. We were ready for the weather but our provisions, perting kulanga. Lingi ko ni Mikhail and completo kaayo siya. Food, water and even a pack of garbage bags for protection against the rain and to sit on sa floor while waiting. When they cleared out the place so the procession can start, grabe gihapon ka init. So nangatulog nalang mi ngadto. I only have around 750ml of water left and it was still 2pm. Nangabot sila paul banday and his group of friends. Some other photographers also arrived on the other side. Dexter Bongo and Chub Atillo arrived also. Some of their buddies from Images also arrived but staked the other side. Then ni abot ang first wave of people pasulod but then it started raining after an hour or so. Grabe ang ulan and perting basa-a namo. Camera, lens, tripod, sapatos, shorts, tshirt. Like the previous sinulog, brief lang gyud ang uga. Basa2x na gani gamay. Even with the umbrella mo lusot gihapon ang ulan. Kung nag baha sa ubos, well, perting bahaa namo sa taas. Walay outlet ang water and nag pundok sa among tiilan. But of course our hardwork got rewarded with so many subjects to shoot. Those people I mentioned above, tikboy, jude and I stayed until around 7 or 8pm. No lunch, no dinner everything else wet except ang sulod sa camera kay ang gawas na basa gyud gihapon. Baha gyud ang gawas sa Sto Nino. Mga canal ning back flow na so ikaw nalang imagine unsa ka hugaw ang tubig nga among gi lakwan.

Cutting this short. Wala gyud na sulod sa akong entries. But wala ko nag reklamo ha. I entered the photo contest for experience, dedication to the Sto Niño, giving it my best in taking photos and enjoy doing it at the same time. Expecting the usual "domog sa reyna ang photographers problem" and adapting to it.

Please give those winners some credits. They deserve it. For example, witness ko sa dedication gi hatag ni Mikhail on that day - Jan 15, 2011. Switching camera bodies and lens under the heavy rain. Yes naa siya assistants, well, just like the rest. Kadaghan photogs nga naay caddy or assistant. Basa ang iya camera, basa iyang lens, 70-200mm and his fisheye. All canon brands. And just like everyone else nga didto like Dexter Bongo, Chub, Paul Banday, Jude, Odik sa aperture, ug ang uban photographers who stayed and remained shooting despite the very unfavorable weather. Saludo ko ninyo tanan

on this photo... 4 are winners... these four does not shoot only during Sinulog but whole year round... travelling to other places for landscapes, human interest, weddings, festivals and just about anything... learn from these guys and shoot with passion and not for discussion... photos you produce under uncontrolled situation will generally make the punctuation mark... there are so many contest that has limited number of entries but still they make it thru... and I dunno about you

but people on this thread are the same people who keeps runting about SFI and other contest... maybe they joined, didnt win and just cant accept defeat...

again, its time to post your photos for you to cement your claim... Mikhail printed alot of photos at Exposure and submitted only a certain number, way way much lesser than the 300++ someone mentioned and pleaded to trust him/her on that... if you have seen Mikhail's rejected photos am sure the number of photo would dwindle down drastically because his rejected photos still stands out from your best photo

I would like to make a call that we stop barking for now... look deep within us and understand the way we approach photography... is it because of your passion for the art?

alot of photo contest are still coming... limited to unlimited entries... then let this be a stepping stone for you to be credible and prove your point...

"my YOU/r here goes out to whom it may concern"

    salamat,
    drb

just want to clear my posts, i never questioned the winners or why they win or what cam they use... my issue is for the SF itself, how they handle and treat us photographers... they made us in some way a "milking cow" and they failed to deliver what their supposed to do(for photographers).

1k or 1.5k is too much... what's in it for us? camera? vest? cap? sling? red carpet nga dalan?

akong makita if ila patas-an ang price sa I.D is musamot og ka barako and barbaric ang mga photographers, of kors all of us wants to get our moneys worth so ang mahitabo maghinangulay na ang mga photographers wala nay mo give way and makasamot na hinuon og disrupt sa Festival... basin mag binunalay na hinuon og camera og lens just to get the "shot".
