MANILA, Philippines—Amid increasing demand for higher speeds and bigger downloads, Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. has launched the new Globe Tattoo Torque—the fastest Internet connection for homes in the Philippines.
Tattoo Torque, which offers speeds up to 150 megabytes per second (mbps), is the first direct-to-home fiber-optic cable Internet connection in the Philippines.
This technology, which is already widely used in more developed markets like Singapore and South Korea, allows networks to transmit larger amounts of data more efficiently over long distances.
Dong Ronquillo, head of the company’s broadband and landline marketing, said with speeds as high as this, users will be able to download full high-definition movies up to 8 gigabytes in size in less than 20 minutes.
“Tattoo Torque is Globe’s solution to your need to carry massive amounts of data into your home, like your favorite movies, music, games and much more,” Ronquillo said.
For P2,999 a month, the entry-level plan in the new Torque line offers speed of as fast as 6 mbps, which is already three times faster than the normal digital subscriber line or DSL plans in the market today.
Plans come bundled with a landline connection and a wireless Wi-Fi router.
The 100 mbps plan, which is the fastest available today, costs P14,999 a month. This is still slower than the 112-mbps Internet connections currently offered by cable company SkyBroadband.
But Ronquillo said by March, Globe plans to launch 150-mbps plans, which will cost around P20,000 a month.
