You haven't looked hard enough. You're only looking at the city's urban districts. Cebu's cities could stand for improvements on the infrastructure and security side, but the island itself is amazing. Where else could you take a quick drive and enjoy fresh, mountain air? How many pristine coastlines does Cebu have? How many dive sites have you visited? Have you trekked any of our mountains?

Cebu isn't exactly the best at anything. The island's strength lies in its healthy mix of island life and modern conveniences, and that's something you should be emphasizing to your friends.

Why do you have to be jealous of Cebu? Why Dont you build your own name? Always Remember that Cebu already has an identity in the international Market for Tourist and that is the reason why they choose to visit our place because we are like a one stop Destination.

If you had a problem about the security then leave that to the Police authorities..(naay bay Hostage Crisis dri? naa bay ASG dir? Naa bay Amptns dir? naa bay bombing diri? HAVE YOU HEARD KUNG NAA BAY TRAVEL ADVISORY ANG CEBU?) and if your having a problem with the 5 & 7 star International Hotels basin nakalimot ka nga ang mka benefit ana ang locals ra pud who get the chance to work and earn good pays.. so, unsai blema nimo doh?

Well, let's not just criticize the TS and let's actually discuss what else we could do to improve Cebu's tourism industry. Cebu has a LOT going for it, but there are also problems that need to be addressed.

My favorite suggestion, I already posted this in another thread is to close off an area of Pari-an that includes the Cebu Cathedral and perhaps Plaza Independencia and make it accessible to pedestrian traffic only. Bale Cebu's equivalent of Intramuros.

Another one is the development of Cordova's wetlands. There's a tourist magnet that's right under our noses but we don't realize it. Boat rides, kinghason soup and barbecued eels. Migratory birds pa jud. Ooops, dili naman diay na Cebu City, but if we launch the boats from SRP to Cordova....

I am glad that there's such a mature post like yours my friend. That's basically what Cebu needs. Your suggestions are truly awesome. It only takes political will to actualize them.

As for what the city needs, infrastructure has to be first on the list. From better and well lighted roads, better power grids (pwerteng luora tan-awn sa wires na gabitay bitay), better telecommunications system, to a better water and sewage system, all these need to be improved if we want tourists, not to mention investors, to take the island seriously.

The local government also needs to make a good master plan for the city, lest we end up like Metro Manila--polluted, congested and just plain unhealthy. At the rate the province is growing, the government needs to take measures now nbefore it's too late.

Cebu is tagged as such maybe because of lobbying and sugar coating. It's just not right to accept and take pride in it coz its not true. Cebu is never the best and the topmost. So, let's not fool others and have them expect great things to see, feel and experience.

Yes, I definitely agree. Also, it needs reliable transpo. Cebu has to expand developments to the north or south areas as on the west is already the mountain. Thus, it needs better, energy efficient, and reliable transpo. More, better garbage management to declogged the sewers, waste water treatment facilities, and better residential zoning.
