onin- generally, if the subject is centered, the shot will look "static". this usually happens when you're shooting landscapes, or your subject has to be shown with its background/context. the rule of thirds usually conveys some form of "dynamism" to the shot. a good example is anakin's boracay addict shot. since the banca is on the left 1/3rd, it conveys the impression that it's moving forward, i.e., towards the right.
