‘Extortion’

In the other incident, the Minglanilla Police Station got a call from their text hotline that a driver was extorted of P1,300 along the highway in Barangay Linao in the southern town at 5 a.m.

A team led by SPO1 Florante Capangpangan proceeded to the area where they met Renato Villaga, 53.

According to a blotter report, Villaga came from Boljoon town and was on his way to Cebu City transporting a truckload of coconut firewood.

He said Juvan Fernandez and Giovanni Caumeran stopped his truck because he was allegedly overloading.

They asked him to present his driver’s license.

After he handed over his driver’s license, the two allegedly told him to pay them P3,000 in exchange for the license.

Since he did not have the amount with him, he gave him all the cash he had amounting to P1,300.

The two allegedly ran off along with his driver’s license to a doublecab parked nearby.

Boljoon Municipal Councilor Alfredo Awe, who learned of the incident, called up the Minglanilla hotline and informed them of the incident.

Mayor Fernandez, in a telephone interview, told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that he still has to check with his son regarding the incident. He wants a proper investigation because he has received reports that someone is using his son’s name to extort money from drivers.
