Senate adopts resolution praising Donaire

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate commended boxing champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. for his recent victory against Ukrainian pugilist Wladimir Sidorenko.

The Senate adopted Resolution 303, praising the Filipino "Flash" for bringing honor to the country by beating the Ukrainian and winning the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight crown.



"He showed exemplary boxing skills and talent during his fight, which resulted in a technical knockout decision on the fourth round of the fight, giving Sidorenko his first knockout loss in his career," the Senate said in its resolution.

They added that Donaire is "one of the promising Filipino athletes in the world of boxing."

"Donaire's discipline, perseverance, dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship should be recognized to set a good example and serve as an inspiration for the Filipino people," the senators said.

The 28-year-old Boholano punished Sidorenko with a 4th round stoppage.
With the feat, Donaire also received praise from compatriot Manny Pacquiao.

"Congratulations sa 'yo, Nonito, sa magandang performance at na-knock-out mo ng 4 rounds. Very impressive. Saludo ako at sana ipagpatuloy mo at sana masundan mo ang yapak ko," the Fighter of the Decade earlier said.

(Congratulations, Nonito, for your very good perfomance and knocking out your opponent in 4 rounds. I salute you and hope that you continue what you do and follow my footsteps).

Donaire is currently preparing for a fight against Mexican Fernando Montiel on February 19, for both World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight titles.

He now has a 25-1 record, and has won 17 bouts via knockout.
