What frugal ways/tips have you learned from your parents?
My stepmother is. Medyo layo ra ko sa iyang katihik, although I try to follow her example pero gastador man gihapon ko gamay. Bisan hatagan pa na'g P10,000 a month mapaigo lang gihapon niya. Pero padala namo now that our little baby is with them 400-500 makapa repair pa siya sa balay, pero ug ako pa to naas Cebu dali ra kaayo nang hutdon nang kwartaha.
Pero at least I don't live beyond my means. Kung gamay ra pud means aw downgrade lang pud ang wants. Like now, crisis aw downgrade gyud. Peso pa ang earning sa una aw tihik pud pero karon nga medyo daku value ang dollars aw upgrade pud. But I know I need to be more thrifty. Di gyud ko madatu ug dili ko magbantay sa akong gasto.
My kuya too is very thrifty. When we were kids he would save his "baon" and put under his clothes in the closet. Now, tihik gihapon kaayo. And gusto pud ug tihik nga mauyab or maasawa.
But I'm sure i'll be more conscious about my spending in a few years. Mura pa target plan ha. Hehehe. But it's an important trait to learn from family members.
Ako mama ug papa di man tihik, pero puro investment ang gihuna huna. Nya i-meet ra permi among basic needs nya naa gamay perks from time to time.
Maayo kaayo akong parents in delayed gratification, mo 50+ na gud cla pero cge gihapon kayod. Simple ra ang life namo, pero kung tan-awon jud nko ug tarong, pde na mo retire akong mama ug papa, bakasyon permi, nya comfrotable gihapon mi iyang 3 ka anak, maski di pami mo trabaho, pero responsible man sad ko so work jud hehehe
Thats why hinay hinay ug learn about investing aron di masayang ang gihagoan sa akong parents![]()
my mom is, it's actually sad kay cge lang sya ingon wala maski naa. me, i spend money sensibly. i keep a half of my earnings and save it.....i don't have so much growing up so i always put aside some for rainy days....you' never know when you need it....
it's nice to start saving while still young kay kanang spending habits importante gyud na. If u are earning well kulang ra gihapon if u don't have good spending habits...As much as possible spend on the basics and once in a while mugasto sad. It's not also good to be a miser. Unsaon man ang kwarta if by the time gusto na ka mu enjoy and you cannot enjoy kay daghan na ka sakit. sayang lang imong gi save.Basta dili lang gyud mabaon sa utang for spending on luxury.
yeah. Important lng jud na control lng ang spending habits. Ako naay pagka tihik gamay, maynalang ganahan mo gasto akong uyab so ma balance ra hehehe
Thanks for sharing, people. There's really a fine line between being frugal and cheap. When we say "tihik" it's really up to us if we mean the former or the latter. But I guess most people think tihik=cheap. Maybe frugal=daginutan?
i used to be gastadora...when my batonton came along...aw super think twice..think thrice...before i spend...DO I REALLY NEED IT? does my son NEED branded clothes? NOT! i think now of how long he would be wearing it...using it...then if he doesnt need it...i sell it...recycle the money into something else.
budget revolves around the needs of my son. came to a point that isang kayod, isang tuka. nakakalokah! talgang kapit lang kang Lord.
right now i am blessed. not exactly rolling in money...but God has been good...so i have to be responsible. savings is a priority. planning for the future is important. i never thought i could change my ways...but i guess we grow up eventually eh? hehehehehe.
sometimes i watch on oprah these moms who spend spend and spend...maxed out na ila mga credit card. i used to have a credit card....pero ngayon NONE!
My family is pretty frugal. Biggest expense is eating out. When we were growing up...we wore fabulous fakes. No one thought it was fake and we got the biggest kick when we did tell them it was fake and no one believed us. hahahahahaha.
so i guess if i can sum it up:
1. SAVE! SAVE! SAVE!
2. Spend only in cash.
3. Look for bargains.
4. Pay for quality and durability...not what your rich neighbor's kids are wearing..using.
5. Treat/use your things gently...coz when it is time to sell it...u can ask for a better price.
6. Eat your pride...if u cant afford it...DONT BUY IT.
7. TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR HEALTH. Most of the time...we get sick coz we are careless. Mahal
magkasakit!
yep, same here. having a son changed my spending habits too, and made me change my ways, from a lazy to a hard working man. What kids do to you hehehe weekend nlng ang gimik, nya dako na kung mo gasto ko ug 200 in 1 night![]()
* Nanay nako super kaayo ka maayo mo handle og money. So I guess since my Nanay handles our family's money, I can say Yes i come from a frugal family. Ako di ko frugal. Am workin on it though.![]()
