Does anyone really CARE whether it burns calories or not? You're still going to DO it because it feels good to have a wet tongue sliding around on your own tongue...

But to be scientific, usage of any muscle requires energy = means you DO use up calories. Any bodily function needs ENERGY = blinking uses tiny muscles in your eyelids, digesting requires complex muscles in the walls of your intestines, etc.

Some would even argue that the human tongue is quite possibly the strongest on the basis that it can "lift" a person. How many calories do you burn trying to lift a person with your arms?

So it's entirely plausible that 26 calories are burned with every 1-minute kiss as 1.the tongue consists of a number of muscles which need energy 2.the salivary glands need energy to secrete saliva 3. any movement of head, neck, hands, and... other parts... will add to number of calories burned.

That's the physiological aspect... Then add that you have nerve endings shooting electricity, heart rate goes up, the brain working overtime, the stiffening of some muscles, the hardening of THE muscle, the hands sliding up and down -- tugging, twisting, pinching, and smacking body parts.

Might not be the strongest... I'd argue that the masseter is stronger seeing as it can generate up to 2000 pounds per square inch of pressure (when chewing or clamping down on something).

In an attempt to answer how many calories are burned lifting a person with your arms = Work done by a muscle depends on the weight of the object lifted and the distance it is moved (and also the initial length to which the muscle was stretched before performing the task.. i think... if I haven't completely muddled what I learned in Physiology.)
