Personally, i think those guys sa service center didn't know what they're talking about. The body controls the shutter, not the lens. Maybe the issue is that the lens was defective in the first place as i've read in a lot of online reviews by customers that some of them had to return defective lenses for autofocus or other issues. But after the replacement the problem was solved. Hopefully you'll get a better lens this time.

After trying bodies Nikon d5000, d80 and d90, here are the things I've observed:

-Nikon sharpness is unquestionable. Try loading an NEF file shot using a regular lens into lightroom. Apply any preset sharpening filter and nothing will change. Nikon is as sharp as it gets.

-Nikon's ability to change autofocus point without entering any menu proves to be very time-saving.

-Nikon has more dedicated buttons. Bad or good, you decide.

-I'm more comfortable with Canon's contrast settings as well as its White Balance.

-I prefer the way Canon renders skin tones.

Although I haven't shot with a d300 yet, the last two reasons alone compel me to stick with Canon. I shoot with "Neutral" as my picture mode, as I prefer to process the pictures myself. I shoot people for the most part so contrast, white balance and skin tones are my paramount considerations. Sharpness is secondary as there are clients who often prefer that details not be rendered with perfect sharpness. Details like wrinkles and blemishes.

Case closed, I'm sticking with my system. I'm waiting for the 60D now.

ooops, 60D diay. fixing that right now. Or dretso na lang kaha kog 7D? hmmmm. lahi na pud nga dilemma...

From the way things look right now, murag mas "consumer" level ang 60D instead of being "prosumer" because of the smaller body and plastic casing.

Your dilemma isteb, happened to me before. I was shopping for a body to replace my 450D. So, there i went to see test the bodies which are 550D, 60D, 7D and 5d Mark II (except 1D coz its way over the budget). then after the testing i ended between 7D and 5D. anyways, i choosed the 5D and i never regret i bought it and now, i dont want to use my 450D.

Keep your 50D and add a 5D MkII.

50D for sports/action/bird/macro photography and the 5D for portraits and landscapes.
