It's actually funny that you say that. I am filipino-american (born in USA), and was not taught to speak tagalog growing up. When asked, my dad would often (passionately) explain how "ugly and barbaric" the language sounded. It kind of shocked me to hear him say something so negative about his own culture, because every filipino I know is brimming with cultural pride.

But yeah, this is a serious case of discrimination, especially considering the number of Spanish speaking in California. This rule should have been all - or - nothing. But I suspect it may have been placed NOT because the Americans dislike the sounds of Tagalog; it was probably because the filipino nurses and clinicians engage in "gossip" sessions that often bogged down productivity, and is often perpetuated by the use of tagalog. Granted, I've seen many Mexican's do this too, but filipinas are notorious for turning a 30 min lunch break into a 2 hour gossip-fest!

Prohibiting language was probably their attempt to curb this behavior - but obviously the WRONG method!

These jobs won't be available indefinitely. USA is in decline, already there is growing social unrest as unemployment rises and salaries fall. Americans (out of necessity) will be filling these jobs in the future. Why expedite this process by fanning the flames of intolerance? I'm sure if you read the comments on outside news sites you will see that many support the action of the hospital. I'm not saying they are right, but it's important to see the big picture and understand public sentiment which (in times of economic hardship) tends to propel hardline politicians to the top where they are then expected to make sweeping changes.
