Think about this for a minute: rapists and murderers are also fully aware of what rhey are doing, and rthey have their own reasons. That doesn't make it right or permissible.
Abortion involves killing someone else -- an innocent person. It is never justified.
The RH/Abortion Bill will effectively legalize abortion through abortifacient contraceptives. HB 96 explicitly funds the procurement and distribution of abortifacient contraceptives such as oral contraceptives, hormonal contraceptives, and the IUD. Section 9 of HB 96, for example, classifies hormonal contraceptives, intrauterine devices, and injectables as "essential medicines," includes them as part of the National Drug Formulary, and subsidizes their procurement. In SB 2378 this is in also in Section 9. Under Section 7 of both bills, all accredited hospitals (except some specialty hospitals) must provide such abortifacient drugs, devices, and services, and this shall be subsidized using public money through Philhealth. Section 10 of both bills mandates the procurement and distribution of such "family planning supplies."
That is one of the reasons why it is so wrong.
Other objections to the RH/Abortion Hill include:
- HB 96 that violates freedom of speech because it punishes anyone just even speaking out against th bill. It calls this "malicious disninformation." Section 22 (e) of the proposed bill HB 96, for example, lists the following as a prohibited act: "Any person who maliciously engages in disinformation about the intent or provisions of this Act." This provision is overly broad and "disinformation" could (and most probably will) be construed as prohibiting the expression of objections to the Bill, such as what we are presently doing. This provision is is obviously going to be used to suppress dissent, and is an undue restriction of freedom of speech. It has no place in any of the laws of a democratic nation.
- Under the RH/Abortion bill, parents will lose their authority over their children when it comes to *** education as the bill prescribes mandatory *** education starting Grade V up to Fourth Year High School.*This is NOT optional and neither schools nor parents are authorized to modify the program according to their religious or other beliefs (HB 96 Sec 13; SB 2378 Sec. 13).
- Section 18, on the other hand, mandates that employers must provide family planning services (or information on where to obtain these), presumably including abortifacient contraceptives, to their employees. Employers, therefore, are not given any choice despite the fact that distribution of these abortifacients and contraceptives may be against their conscience. The Cebu archdiocese, and all dioceses in the Philippines, for example are employers. The bill will also penalize them if they refuse to provide abortifacient and artificial contraceptive drugs, devices, and services.
- HB 96 mandates that the government will "encourage them to have two children as the ideal family size" (Sec. 17). This has no scientific basis and will, in fact, lead to populkation ageing if successfully implemented. Moreover, such "encouragement" has historically always been coercive despite the bill's further prescription that no "punitive action" will be taken against couples that have more than two children. This is disingenious since it essentially means that some will be granted incentives while others denied them. Among the poor, that can certainly be (and has been in the past) very coercive. The choice of which "incentives" to deny is tricky and very open to abuse. Fortunately there is no similar provision in SB 2378.
These are objective, NON-RELIGIOUS reasons for rejecting the RH/Abortion Bill.
