The question is can you copy it? do you have the source code of the FB site? you heard about joomsocial I think using this CMS you can copy or clone a FB site in just 2-3 months or less.
i doubt it, with only "1" developer?
as you can see, facebooks design is not that complicated, I think your 2 designers would be enough.
@eaccessbpowebteam i also doubt it that you could copy/clone facebook using a CMS. Maybe you could create a facebook like social networking site using such cms, but not facebook.
The thing is there's lot to facebook than just design and adding friends, there are things to consider. Example are;
Interactivity (third party applications, auto-suggests, user notices, as you see facebook can give you update in almost all account interaction)
Ajax Components
and many more a lot I can't mention,
but most you cant implement the "Facebook API", which is distributed in many implementations, php, javascript, and blah2x. The api is used by 3rd party company/developers to create applications. (eg. games)
and also as software architecture SOP, you need to implement a design that is extendable/pluggable so that you can apply changes and enhancements easily.
So i doubt it you could copy facebook in 3 months even with 10 developers, or even using a CMS.
kaya nako 80% FB replicated (Basic FB no API) for 3 months 10hrs/7days, ayaw lang ko padesigna kay nag practice pako ana...
if kung akong platform nga develop... its just 1 1/2 month... kay plugin naman siya with template system
we worked on a replicated FB for european client before... it took us 2 months for basic FB then i made the basic API for 1 month... thou naa mi designer...
the most complicated part is connections/network... di lalim ang algorithm...
we already have the basic platform... thats why we were able to speed it up...

Great, how about performance? Did you use HipHop? How about DB? Did you use cassandra?
FB speed is one of the factors why FB is great.
stupid idea... you can't copy facebook by using CMS... LOL
If you want to create a system. Create it from scratch... it will take you months to year to make it. Database and image file handling systems will make you go crazy to Terrabytes.
we use mySQL its not intended for milions of user, and so its not an issue, about ajax performance we use prototype and some jquery
speed of FB?, FB is memory HOG because of AJAX applications
....
facebook cant be replicated using open source CMS, it can only be replicated if built from ground up...
if you know what your doing... you can create a basic system in weeks... not years... i build my home-brewed system in 1 month...
sample of my system -> Bigfoot Ascendant (created in 2 days including HUGE backend, minus the design its not mine), still need some optimization thou - template, plugin system and some wordpress and joomla function goodies, ive fixed the limitations in WP and Joomla...
I don't get it when you said you created Bigfoot Ascendant in 2 days including "Huge Backend";
I looked at the site and from what I see there is nothing special about it. Of course it could be done in 2 days or less (minus the design).
Using a CMS is easy to implement such a site, its just a site with contents there's not a lot of programming into it, maybe the search functionality but not the shopping cart/webstore because it is an amazon webstore.
