I'm not hoping to start a Canon Vs. Nikon debate, just wanna know some pros and cons because I'm getting different inputs from review and from some friends and I need more unbiased opinions regarding the 2. I'm planning to buy a cam and would like to start with a 50mm f1.8 lens and I'm gonna use it mainly for portraits and pics of my tarantulas.

I'm a Canon user pero i'll go with D90 for the choices above.

I'm a nikon user but why not go for Nikon D7000. So far its beginning to get good reviews lately.
But basing on the two choices above, for me D90.

D7000 is nice but I'm on a tight budget, better if under 35k or 40k at max already with a 50mm lens...

For me I'm not sure about what capability the 550D has. Pero if budget wise I suggest go for the D3100 and get a 35mm f1.8. But since you mentioned you'll be using a 50mm f1.8 performance and flexibility when it comes to lens choices D90 is excellent choice. Originally Posted by winwin

I'm a canon user, pero I would go for D90 over 550D...why? for me its superb clean photos even in High ISO compared to the 550D. (but there is noise ninja anyway)
downside is the expensive line up of nikon lenses. But if budget is not an issue, go for nikon.

Pwede mo apil mga bro. Share lang sab ko. I'm a nikon user also. Currently using D90 so far my shots are quite good for starters. Same said as alucard_x nice iyang capabilities. Kaso lang mahal lang jud ang mga lens sa nikon mao rana iyang nakapiit sa atong budget.
