Questionable Sokol choppers’ deal in the Philippines

"Are our P6 billion government appropriations for 15 PZL Swidnik S.A helicopters from Poland would be another precious Philippine fund that goes to the drain because of corruption due to non- competitive bidding?

Most developed and developing countries in the world do not possessed these questionable Polish choppers known as Sokol in their inventory. Why are they avoiding these stuffs like plague?

Compared to a latest technology chopper of the same class, this Pole made aircraft has only 1,340 kw take-off power on a 6,400 kg weigh, while Augusta A159 has 2,030 kw take-off power on a 6000 kg weight.

In Southeast Asia, it’s only poor Myanmar ( Burma ) that has the gall to maintain them despite all of these military hardware were returned by the Iraqi Air force to its maker in Poland .
Has the fledgling Iraqi air force found something wrong with Swidnik? Is this rotary wing aircraft has a tendency to be a widow-maker like our U.S hands-me-down Vietnam war era Huey choppers?"

Seems like the deal is kinda fishy. The absence of the better bidders is already suspicious.
I think uncle Sam has no issues if we will buy non US made arms. So there is a big chance we will get better helos which i favor the Hind 35 because it can do multi-task (transport/attack) and not high maintenance which aligns to the airforce's doctrine if im not wrong.

Mao jud...na ko kaila na airforce and he has knowledge in aircraft maintenance but he's in a different squadron...daghan kaau dapat e-change sa airforce not only sa pag upgrade sa equipment but also sa systema sa department...and perhaps realignment of duties and responsibilities. broad kaau ni na topic da.

i don't feel sorry for your friend... he may be at the wrong department but he can always do his part in the service. little things will matter if we don't expect much for something in return or any recognition. i am sure he is also doing good in his assignment now although he can be better in aircraft maintenance. try to look for the "military professionalism" and read it carefully. there you will understand what it is to be in the service. sometimes the problem is not in the realignment of duties but in the self esteem of every soldier because others seem to show lack of support to our men in uniform. i agree bro, we should support our armed forces. an appreciation to the armed forces is a big boost to their morale. in the mind of a soldier even if they swore to defend the people, who wants to fight a battle for people who do not appreciate them. with the people's support, they will fight even if they have no equipment. let's support our troops.

i really dont think we need a very strong airforce right now.. its not like our current enemies have aircrafts that needs to be shot down dba? hehe

mybe what we need are more logistics crafts and ground-support crafts... and better search and rescue capabilities and survelience

i think one aircraft equipped with infra-red equipment that detects movement on the ground will greatly help our armed forces.. dba? its good to able to see where those bastards are sleeping or doing at night.. hehe

i would strongly agree with you.. people are looking at our Air Force as "weak" because they look at its capability to engage in war against foreign forces. they seem to be blinded by that when in fact they have not seen the way our Air Force responded to their duties during the calamities we have suffered.

and about the IR-ready aircrafts we already have IR or NVG-capable hueys deployed in critical areas like Samar, Basilan, and parts is Mindanao. and we have GPS employed to our ground troops too. but only to critical areas still. basin ang uban wala pa kabalo naa ta ani bah...

i would strongly agree with you.. people are looking at our Air Force as "weak" because they look at its capability to engage in war against foreign forces. they seem to be blinded by that when in fact they have not seen the way our Air Force responded to their duties during the calamities we have suffered.

Of course the PAF is VERY WEAK. Vietnam-vintage Hueys

really, does Huey II still a vietnam-vintage?, hell no... majority of our UH helicopter had been upgraded... extending lifespan on their airframe... boosting up the powerplant... so i wouldnt say it is old... beside US is still using it... does that mean weak pud sila?, same thing goes on OV10, OV-10 is more effective on COIN than those fancy hardware like F15,F16...

US had been requesting revival on OV-10 and other prop aircraft for COIN...

accidents happen if not properly maintain... or had missed proper checking... even newer aircraft suffer this...

the strength of an air force is not entirely base on hardware... it also based on how professional and proficient the pilots are...

brod. US Armed Forces are not using anymore those HUEYs gen.++ whatever you call it. Those HUEYs are being replaced by transport/gunship choppers namely the pavehawks and the famous blackhawks. Mind you people it would take our govt. about 10-15 yrs. to make our airforce on par w/the other nations(ASEAN) airforce just take for example the Singapore Airforce it took them 15yrs. to modernize their airforce just think about the training alone on how to operate those fancy hardwares such as those fighter jets would take 7 to 10yrs. to train an individual to become a hardcore fighter pilot. So in our case, our current active PAF pilots would be to old already once they finished the course. LMAO...get real ppl!
