B-Meg Derby Ace superstar forward Kerby Raymundo has been ruled out for the rest of the PBA Philippine Cup as he’s still recovering from a hip surgery.
The 6-foot-6 Raymundo is still in the United States where he is in the final phase of a three-month rehabilitation program after undergoing operation last month to repair a tear in his hip that forced him to miss several games last season.
According to PBA chairman and B-Meg team governor Rene Pardo, Raymundo is responding well with his medical rehab, which will end Dec. 7.
“
He’s doing fine and he’s recovering well after that operation,” Pardo said.
“After that, we’ll decide if he will continue to stay there in the US or comeback here for conditioning, which will take quite some time to get him to game shape. Hopefully, Kerby will be ready for the second conference,” Pardo added.
The absence of Raymundo, as well as Marc Pingris (hip) and Rafi Reavis (fractured right middle finger), has affected B-Meg’s campaign early this conference in their title-retention bid as the Llamados dropped their first three games.
They finally notched their first win under new mentor George Gallent following a 75-71 victory over newcomer Meralco of former coach Ryan Gregorio.
Pardo said the 6-foot-5 Pingris and the 6-foot-7 Reavis will return to action next month.
Meantime, San Miguel Beer won its second straight under new head coach Ato Agustin by downing Powerade, 119-94, in the Phoenix Fuel PBA on the road Saturday at the Panabo Multi-Purpose Tourism, Cultural and Sports Center in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
Dondon Hontiveros scattered 27 points while Arwind Santos finished with 25 markers to lead the Beermen, who forged a three-way for the lead with the Alaska Aces and Talk ’N Text Tropant Texters with similar 3-1 cards.
Holloween treat
Eight interesting double-headers that could effect significant movement in the standings have been calendared this week by the PBA as its own Halloween treat to its legion of fans.
Two certified thrillers scheduled on Wednesday serves as curtain raiser of the four-day “Halloween Special” with San Miguel Beer’s attempt for a third straight win drawing much of the attention.
Their egos battered after a disappointing 83-97 loss against Talk ’N Text three weeks ago, the Beermen strongly bounced back with a heart-stopping 69-68 decision against the Barangay Ginebra Kings on Oct. 17 then followed it with a 119-94 blasting of the Powerade Tigers last Sunday in Panabo City that got them into a share of the lead.
