Typical Filipino BS. Just like what former senator Gordon said, Filipinos react before they think. Put Prof. Monsod's lecture into context, It was addressed to UP students, first and foremost. Why are we like this as a people man oi? We love to react vehemently without understanding the issue. tsk tsk.

about the phrase "the country paid for their education", education should be free.
It's easy to say they are traitor pero what we should be thinking is, ngano na ni larga man sila?
before we jump to our conclusion we should know the underlying problem. their leaving the country is just a result of underlying problem we are experiencing in our country. if matubag or ma resolve natu na na mga problema i don't think nga naa daghan mo biya as country. dili baya sayon mo adto sa place nga lahi kaayo ang culture. ako sister bisan naa na mga anak ug bana didto ug stable na ang trabaho mingawon gihapon pinas. ganahan ra gihapon mo uli. but she has to stay to provide better future sa ilaha anak.

I Agree with Winnie, Filipino OFW's are not heroes but modern slaves! sorry to offend everyone, but that is my point of view, majority of my relatives and families are working abroad. Filipino work only for themselves, not for the Filipino people or for the country.

The Problem with us is we don't know how to use our resources properly, that is why we found salvation outside the country even if we suffer so much, but foreigners find our country rich and they are the one using our resources.

    let's be honest with ourself..
everyday we go to our workplace.. are we thinking of serving the country?
our country is so f*cked up that we don't have the time to think of our country because we are too busy trying to survive...

instead of pointing fingers to other people.. this problem is also on us...
we should demand from our government better job, higher wages and everything else that our government should be providing us.

in our inability to act we look for someone to blame.. bingo! blame it on those who bolted out of the country because they could have a decent life out there... we are just the same with them... trying to survive... it's just unfortunate we don't have the brain like them which made their luck hehee....

hehe I think the problem here is that people just feel entitled to everything. Especially those students who go to public universities they seem to think that the government is obligated to give them a free education until college. in my opinion, public universities should not be free or they should be abolished and the money spent on making high school better. what's the point of having these universities when our HS are turning out so many substandard students. it's a waste of money.

if i am not mistaken i think mrs monsod was referring to UP graduates whose tuition and other school expenses are heavily subsidized by the Philippine taxpayers.

as for those others (non UP grads) who left our country for abroad, i leave that judgment to them.
