PS2 resident evil weapons change problem- help please!

hi guys. I just had my australian PS2 converted so i can play local games. I cant seem to be able to change my weapons. Even if I buy a shotgun i cant change it. it will swap from knife to handgun but i cant load anything else.
it is a burnt game that only cost 100p. could this be the problem?

no problem.. worked it out. i had a faulty controller!!!

now i just need to work out the icon with the revolving disc behind the church, then how to jump off the chandlier in the church to continue. Im really stuck here so any help is appreciated!

for the icon puzzle inside the church

rotate/turn
Red-2 Green-3 Blue-1

press X to jump to the chandelier, when it's swing over to opposite side, press X to jump to the other side.

as for cheats hmm...i don't know any, just beat the game normally it's actually quite pretty easy.
just conserve ammo, by shooting the Ganados/Infected in the head or in the knee=melee attacks.
lastly pay attention to the QTE's during boss fights and cutscenes, i actually died alot of times by thinking it would be just another cinematic/cutscene and suddenly a command prompt comes and it's already too late, "You Are Dead" screen is pretty normal but you'll get the hang of it.
