d5000 has an impressive noise handling so crank up your ISO so that you can get more shutter speed to freeze those motion blurs.

very helpful link bro...ako nalingaw na pud hinuon. hahahah

    @blessy
also hinay2x pud study the art of panning Mastering Panning – Photographing Moving Subjects

I dunno if this is as helpful as chipmunk's link but I guess you should give it a try

    also another tip:
just enjoy the event and shooting it and don't get the pressure of having that perfect shot!!!

    then post the results here

    try the following:

TV / S priority mode = set the speed to 1/250sec or 1/500sec

set your ISO to the highest , open your aperture to the widest.

    set command dial...

    ... to Sports Mode

    Vari-program: Sports

High shutter speeds freeze motion for dynamic sports shots in which the main subject stands out clearly. The camera focuses continuously while the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, tracking the subject in the center focus area. If the subject leaves the center focus area, the camera will continue to focus based on information from the other focus areas. The starting focus area can be selected with the multi selector. The built-in flash and AF-assist illuminator turn off automatically.

    S: 1/500s
    A: 5.6
    ISO: 1600
    WB: Auto
    Shooting mode: Burst

Adjust shutter speed if image is too dark. Good luck
