Requirements for Foreign Trained Occupational Therapist.

In addition to receiving your degree and passing the US licensing exam, you will also need to have taken and passed the TOEFL, and TSE. Please see item number 7 below:

1. Updated resume: required to keep current throughout employment

2. Copy of Transcript of Records with detailed description of courses taken, units earned, and time spent on each subject

3. Copy of BSOT Diploma

4. Copy of License issued by the State Licensing Commission from the country where OT education was obtained

5. Copy of credential evaluation performed by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). (To apply for NBCOT evaluation, please refer to Occupational Therapy | Certifications | NBCOT )

6. Visa Credential Verification Certificate (VCVC) issued by NBCOT or Visa Screen Certificate issued by ICHP.

7. English Proficiency minimum test scores must be:

NBCOT issues two (2) letters - (i) A notification that the NBCOT International Pre-Screening Application has been approved; and (ii) Approval letter to apply for the Certification Examination for Occupational Therapist Registered.

For VCVC compliance, please inquire from NBCOT or the Visa Screen Certificate from the International Commission on Healthcare Professions (ICHP) at CGFNS International - global credibility in credentials evaluation . This organization is a division of CGFNS CGFNS International - global credibility in credentials evaluation.

Please note that only graduates from programs that are recognized by the WFOT will be accepted for employment, unless you have been pre-screened and in possession of the NBCOT eligibility letter.

A candidate applying for certification as an Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) after January 1, 2007 must either be a master's degree holder OR a graduate from an accredited occupational therapy program recognized by the NBCOT and present evidence of educational preparation that is determined to be equivalent to American Occupational Therapy educational standards.
