how come there's no cheap body + cheap lens?!!
I did a lot of commercial work with just a 300D with 18-55kit

Yup. Mao gyud sir. Dako kaayo difference sa duha and I vote for the second choice you got there
Yes, I don't mind paring an FF with a 5k lens. I've done than. Did people laugh at me? Nope. How about the results? Kick @$$, you got built in vignette sa imong portraits. Ideal for that certain shoot. Last night @ marco polo bridal fashion show I saw someone with a D300s and yongnuo flash. That's his choice however and his results were superb.
If I have a MAC air (eeeww.., with the cost of a mac air I can get a windows laptop way faster and still have extra money for my camera). Anyway, with Mac air, and CDR King stuff, why not? Do I really have to settle for the winnie pooh? There are so many choices in CDRKING, not as good as those from logitech, silverstone and unsa pa diha, but it'll do the job. I have a MSI Wind netbook, expensive when I got it since I had it fully upgraded (full ram, highest hdd plus an extended 8hours battery) and what do I have for my mouse? Yes, a small cdrking mouse, black in color. Which my clients usually comment at and ask me where to buy one because they want one too. And these clients are owners of hotels, shipping lines and malls here in Cebu.
Here's a pro doing it with a D3 and a 50mm lens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQHJcmpoAvM
true true... daghan diri naka expensive lens + cheaper body who are actually selling their camera bodies in B&S to upgrade to a more expensive body. hihihihi
hi sir, yeah. i know. idol tika when it comes to that for getting out superb outputs with that choice. should we add these choices? expensive body + 3rd party lens & cheap body + cheap lens ?

Here's my opinion
I think the question is a little broad and would be difficult to answer.
When you say better, is it for general photography? Landscape? Portraits? Sports? Etc... or are you looking for a faster capture, sharpness, etc...
My thought is, a more expensive body will have a better ISO range, faster processing, faster FPS, etc.
When you say a more expensive lens, it can be a lens with fixed aperture say 17-55mm 2.8/f, a superzoom 400mm or UWA 12-24mm. Cheap lens could be a kit lens, the nifty 50mm (which is actually at par with the expensive lenses albeit its fixed mm limitation).
Depende cguro sa budget sa tao. And i think the TS started this thread for the people with limited budget in mind. Ang question here, para more specific, is which would you prefer, a Canon 5D with a Canon 50mm f/1.8? Or a Canon 450D with a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8? Something like that. As for me, I come to realize that the Canon 5D 50mm combo would be better for the long term kay you could always get better lenses when you need them. Kay dali ra kaayo i outgrow ang camera body gud. Like if you get a 450D now, and in like 2 months, ma pul an na dayn ka, so you get a 5D. So murag dako na kaayo imo nagasto. Ambot, masabtan ba ako gi sulti? Kay reading back, murag nalibog ko...heheheh...
I think most guys here are overblowing and over-analyzing a simple and fun topic by the TS...
hehe.
heres my opinion. way masuko if mo contradict sa inyo.
i'd go for expensive body + cheap lens.
*NOTE: Not for the fact nga expensive cya, but for the features nga need jud nako for the shots.
i love prime lenses, and totally disagree nga prime lenses are not expensive, unless your talking about 50 1.8mm which is sulit jud au then can give you excellent performace.
before naa ko old body, teamed up with an expensive lens, portraits, landscapes, ok raman, no prob really, not until when i had a project for my group which is sports-related, martial arts stuffs, didto nako kit-an weakness ako camera. thats why i decided to upgrade jud, i needed more FPS.
DSLR - degrades in 3 -4 yrs
LENS - still amazing even if it's 10yr's old
"Our bodies get wrinkled and shriveled. Our eyes don't"
- still luvin 14 - 24 f2.8 Nano and 24 - 70 f2.8 NANO....
