plain black and white manga is dull

I beg to disagree. The B&W format actually is a tool to cut costs for the publisher, and there are mangas that are emotional like Sundome that you don't even need colored pages. It's the plot that should hook you to manga, not the colors unless, well, if you are a visual person. Personally I prefer deep plotlines and not some fancy colorful explosive page.

The american comic "The Walking Dead" is a perfect example of a B&W book that would only be ruined by colors.
