i'm the sys-ad on a small (20 computer) network. it has become a huge pain to schedule system tasks (a/v, winbloz updates, defrag etc.) on the network. is there a way to automate it?

I'm currently testing Mickeysoft's Windows Live Onecare which pretty much has the automation feature to do the stuff you mentioned.
Windows Live OneCare: http://www.windowsonecare.com/
OneCare's Automatic tuneup: http://www.windowsonecare.com/prodin...cedetails.aspx
There's a 90day trial that you can download and after that, you can pay for a subscription which is valid for 3 PCs.
agreed.. but we run a small cyber-cafe and might not be able to afford that
any other solutions?
thanks for this pointer, though
umm... correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't windows have this deployment system that distributes updates to computers? google for it. i believe naa ni. it's what we use sa office. i"m not the sys-ad so i'm not sure how they do it.
Arnt sysads supposed to think a solution for that? or maybe sysad is a little big of a term for that?
why not use the Task scheduler built into windows.. cant be easier than that if you want updates set the specfic time of windows updates ( im assuming orig inyong windows ) for defrag use Perfect disk naa na siyay daily time schedules for AV use AVG free edition..
well yeah, the "sys-ad" is supposed to know all that. but i'm not a certified expert. i volunteered to take up this task as i was a bit more comfortable taking up this job than the rest.
i do use the task scheduler to schedule the tasks. but the problem comes when i have to add/delete/modify a task. i have to do it manually on ALL the computers. i discovered that it could be done over the network (instead of sitting on each machine physically), but it still takes a lot of time; if you consider all the things that need to be scheduled.
so i'm hoping that there is a solution to this kind of problem somewhere
tnks in advance.
executive software's sitekeeper from the makers of diskeeper.

... but if you want a free solution. stick to manual updates/maintennance. 20 ra bitaw na kabuok
Yeah...in addition, if u dont want to go physically sa imo mga workstation...use remote software.Originally Posted by chocomai
