CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Carlos Warriors assured themselves of landing at the top four going into the quarterfinals after scoring a 76-65 victory over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, even as the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras halted the two-game run by the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT-U), 81-71, in the 10th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) season at the Cebu Coliseum.

GAMES TOMORROW August 24 (Cebu Coliseum)

Former Warrior Dennis Earvin Ferraren paced the staggering Panthers with 13 points, while Mil Anthony Linao and Lawrence Miguel Marano chipped in 12 points each.

Later in the day, Eleazar Armecin fired six triples of his topscoring 27 points as the Cobras coasted to their third victory in five games. The Wildcats fel to 3-3.

Rene Pacquiao backed up Armecin with 18 points. Curso led the Wildcats with 21 points followed by Floyd Taboada with 11.

In the secondary matches, the vastly improved Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons made mincemeat of the CIT Wildkittens, 87-57, to keep the solo lead with 5-1 win-loss record, while the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles escaped with a 78-72 win over the USPF Baby Panthers.

Default USJ-R Jrs. From 2nd runner-up to 2nd from the bottom

Senining brothers shine in USJ-R’s first win

    Sunday, August 22, 2010

    By Rommel C. Manlosa

BROTHERS Renzo Theodore and Rendell Thomas Senining delivered the needed firepower to lead the struggling University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars, 77-68, over the Don Bosco Technology College (DBTC) Baby Greywolves in the high school division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, on the other hand, vented their ire on the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 78-60, in the other high school match.

USC also won in the collegiate division, with Joven Cid Cortes and Sam Jordan Hermosa leading the Warriors to their fourth win, 76-65, over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers.

Southwestern University also banked on Eleazar Armecin’s 27 points to snap a two-game losing skid following an 81-71 win over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats.
Struggling for the entire first half, USJ-R changed its defensive style and turned to the Senining brothers for the needed points in the final half to score its first victory, while handing DBTC its fourth straight loss.

USJ-R seemed headed for another loss as it trailed DBTC, 39-22, at the half. However, things turned sour for DBTC in the third quarter when the Seninings combined for 13 points in a 20-8 blitz that cut the DBTC lead to 47-42 entering the final period.

USJ-R then took the fourth quarter by storm as Renzo delivered 11 points, while Rendell and Julius de la Peña Jr. combined for 14 to complete the come-from-behind victory.
