Cool Help with making a website

Hello mga bro/sis nako na mga geeky:

I have a transcription business and I am planning to have a website where I can have clients post their requests, and as well as a site where I can accept applications from applicants. If possible it must have an email capacity. Since I am just starting the business (2 months old), I do not have the capacity to buy those domains or whatever they are called. I am currently looking for ways on how I can do this. If you know a site that allows me to create this without spending a cent that would be awesome. If not, I may be able to spend at least $1-3 a month.

I am open to all suggestions, including paying someone to do this, but please suggest sensibly. Thank you so much fellow Istoryans.

If you're serious about this internet business, I suggest that you seriously consider investing in a domain. I personally find web-based businesses without their own domain to be less trustworthy — after all, if they're not willing to invest a little cash into their business, then they can't be all that serious about it, so why should I invest in them? Less than $10 would give you 1 year's registration, enough time to save up for the next year. With a domain, you would be able have email using Google Apps (it's an awesome, awesome service, and for free) even if you don't have a web host yet.

As for hosting, free hosts are a dime a dozen and you could even use free platforms like Blogger and Wordpress with your domain. However, you would then be limited by whatever platform you choose, so future expansion may be problematic. Also, free hosts tend not to be the most stable in the world. If you're running on a tight budget, even $1-3/mo is enough for a good, stable web host. In fact, with the web host I'm using, I sometimes pay less than a dollar a month (their pricing structure is pay-what-you-use).

Thanks Syd.. I am really a noob when it comes to this stuff. If that is the case then I will have my own domain. Can you refer some sites where I can buy a domain with the cheapest rate? Also for webhosting please. If I hire someone to make the site, that will be another thing, right?

    Try daw wordpress. Wordpress

But then, i would agree with Syd. siguro hosting for 1 domain will cost around P1700.00 and the domain name would be P400-450.oo, a year na siya.

My personal registrar is NameCheap. There may be cheaper registrars out there, but I've been with NC for some time and have several domains with them, so I trust them. If you're looking for other registrars with a cheaper price, do some research first (Google for negative reviews) and be sure to read the fine print. Sometimes these "cheap" registrars hit you for exorbitant prices on renewal.

As for hosting, I'm currently using NearlyFreeSpeech.net. Their pay-what-you-use pricing scheme is really affordable for small to medium sites (at one time, I've paid more or less P150 for 9 months of hosting).

A couple of caveats: you don't get cPanel (or any of the other usual control panels, actually), and it doesn't have mail like cPanel hosts. That last is not a problem for me, though, as I use Google Apps for my email, which is a lot more stable than using your web host for email (as a client of mine unfortunately found out when his web host's server went down). What you do get for your money is an ultra-stable system running on FreeBSD clusters, load balanced DNS, and other things you'd have to be a bit geeky to appreciate. You could try them out first to see if they work for you as signup is free and you're given a little balance in your account ($0.02, I think) so you can play around with their features a little while you make your decision.
