Malacañang wants sequestered television stations RPN-9 and IBC-13 sold within two years as part of the changes the Aquino administration has promised, the head of the Presidential Communications Operations Group said Sunday.
Herminio Coloma said the two networks must be overhauled first to ensure that they would be in top condition before being privatized.
Inevitably, the overhaul will include the reorganization of the boards of directors of the two TV stations, he said.
RPN-9 and IBC-13 were among the private companies of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his cronies that the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) sequestered in 1986 when Corazon Aquino assumed the presidency.
“In the case of the two private stations under government supervision, the clear direction is toward privatization. It has been 24 years since they were sequestered. It’s not agreeable that they have remained in that situation this long,” Coloma said.
He added, however, that the new administration’s plan to privatize the stations would involve a long process.
