... all this trouble around the world in just a couple of weeks: starting with N Korea's missile launch, Iran's refusal to submit to the UN Security Council re it's atomic program and the latest, Israel's retaliation after the alleged kidnapping of two of their soldiers..

what has the world gone into nowadays... makes me feel sick.

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Israel intensified its attacks against Lebanon on Thursday, blasting Beirut's airport and two Lebanese army air bases near the Syrian border, and imposing a naval blockade. More than 50 people have died in violence following the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah militants.

Warplanes punched holes in the runways of Beirut's international airport and two military air bases, attacks that could draw the Lebanese army into the conflict.

Israel's army chief Brig. Gen. Dan Halutz warned that "nothing is safe" in Lebanon and said Beirut itself _ particularly Hezbollah offices and residences _ would be a target. Maj. Gen. Udi Adam said Israel had hit hundreds of targets and hadn't ruled out sending in ground troops.

Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israeli towns and said it was using a new missile that appeared to be more advanced than previous models. One Israeli was killed and more than 35 injured.

The militant group also said it would rocket Haifa, a key port and the country's third-largest city, if Israel hit Beirut, a strike that would be the deepest ever into Israel by the guerrillas _ some 18 miles. An Israeli intelligence official said Hezbollah missiles could reach Haifa.

Two days of Israeli bombings, the heaviest air campaign against its neighbor in 24 years, had killed 47 Lebanese and wounded 103, Health Minister Mohammed Jawad Khalife said. Besides the Israeli civilian, eight Israeli soldiers had also been killed.

Both sides played a high stakes game following the capture of the two soldiers by Hezbollah: Israel sought to end Hezbollah's presence on the border, while the guerrillas insisted on trading the captured soldiers for Arab prisoners.

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Israel intensified its attacks against Lebanon on Thursday, imposing a naval blockade, twice hitting Beirut's airport and blasting two Lebanese army air bases near Syria. Hezbollah fired more than 100 rockets into Israel, which said several struck the port city of Haifa.

The Shiite militant group denied it had rocketed Haifa, where no injuries were reported, though two days of violence elsewhere left at least 51 people dead on both sides of the border. The crisis began with a Hezbollah raid on Israel Wednesday that resulted in the capture of two Israeli soldiers.

Late Thursday, Israeli helicopter gunships unleashed missiles on Beirut international airport, setting fuel tanks ablaze, in the second attack on Lebanon's only international air facility, Lebanese security officials said.

One helicopter gunship raked the fuel depots with machine gun fire while three others fired air-to-surface missiles, the officials added.

Earlier, Israeli warplanes punched holes in the runways of the airport and two military air bases, attacks that could draw the Lebanese army into the conflict.

    ‘Nothing is safe’
Israel’s army chief Brig. Gen. Dan Halutz warned that “nothing is safe” in Lebanon and said Beirut itself — particularly Hezbollah offices and residences — would be a target. Maj. Gen. Udi Adam said Israel had hit hundreds of targets and hadn’t ruled out sending in ground troops.

Israeli warplanes dropped thousands of leaflets in Hezbollah's stronghold in Beirut's southern suburb on Thursday, urging residents to stay away from the group's offices and buildings, witnesses said.

"For your own safety and because of our desire not to harm any civilians who are not involved (with Hezbollah), you should refrain from staying in areas where Hezbollah is present and operating," said the Arabic-language leaflets, signed "The State of Israel".

the truth is both soldiers in hamas and hezbollah hands are CAPTURED IN COMBAT and not " kidnapped " a fair fire fight using firearms but these two groups are considered terrorist organization thats why the term kidnap in most western media..... mind u hamas a considered terrorist organization by the us and allies but they gave it some form of legitimacy they even talk and negotiate with it... but israel is firm until now it considered it as terrorist nothing more but this is there own undoing by recognizing and negotiating with PLO an extreme terrorist in the 1970s it it gives extremes groups a reason thAt the term terrorist is some what vogue, just like the british talking and negotiating with the IRA mind u this organization had been in public minds on its methods like bombming civilian targets, using assasins..etc and was considered an extreme terrorist at that time.

so terrorist today could be a legitamate government or a political party depending on the sitting or current governing power,,, who knows a weakling grp government in 2020 may talk to depicable groups like abu sayaf and may even allow it to participate in congresss eggggg crazy heheehehe

Im afraid that this will escalate into full blown was...

I can see Iran's hand in these. Hezbollah has been financed by Iran and it was known that they do not make a move without consulting their benefactor. You can just imagine the timing of the Hezbollah attack with the Iranians refusal to accept the offer of peace by the EU and US in exchange for their uranium enrichment program. This is clearly a smokescreen.

What puzzles me is that why some countries blame Israel for the mess in the middle east right now. Who attacked whom first? Who kidnapped whose citizens? That crazy Iranian president is now babbling again about how the Zionist regime is generating the crisis here. And now France and Russia are condemning Israel for its responses! For the first time since he was elected, Im proud to say President Bush is doing the right thing. He is supporting Israel at the same time telling them to exercise restraint. Wouldnt you be mad if your government did nothing to secure your release? After killing 8 Israeli soldiers IN their land?

I think its time that we stand up against these people. Im also happy that Saudi Arabia is condemning Hezbollah for the mess in Lebanon...
