I'm thinking of getting some turtles, specifically the green turtles sold in SM's pet shop.. But I have no experience. I just want to ask some questions.

- are the green turtles in SM ok?
- how do you take care of them? do they need a tank/bowl with that oxygen-giving tube thing?
- do they... propagate?

if anyone can answer these questions I'd be really thankful. I've been wanting to buy turtles for a long time already, I'm just not confident enough to raise some yet.

Try sa White Gold, mas mura ang RES, kay kanang sa SM murag 3x ang price.
Pero, check lang sah pud sa health sa turtle kay mura raba sila sardinas, crowded au sa isa ka aquarium. Pilia kanang bibo...

Or try sa River Front aquarium.

IMO lang naman, kay sa amu, naa sa kwarto ang tank para pagdating sa bahay na kapoy au, maka.wala stress tan-awon galangoy-langoy ang turtle or nagpalubong sa mga peebles.. ^^

usually ang pond sa gawas man nah dba? nice ni sya pag modako na ang turtle, like pag moabot nag 5 inches or more siguro... para dako pud ang space.

How to Find a Healthy Pet Turtle

If you've decided to adopt a pet turtle, you need to know more than just how to choose a habitat and food. Knowing how to find a healthy pet turtle can save the expense of vet care for a sickly animal and worse, the heartbreak of losing a brand new pet.

Step 1
Observe the turtle habitat for signs of neglect. Look for clean water and little evidence of waste. Mild odor isn't cause for concern, but a foul stench or rotting food is a sure sign the reptiles are not in a sanitary habitat. Even if your heart is set on a single healthy-looking turtle, the condition of the entire tank matters. If a single turtle in the habitat is ill, they can all develop health problems.

Step 2
Look closely at the colors of the turtle that you choose. Healthy turtles have a bright, glossy finish. If your turtle appears to have a matte finish with dull eyes, it likely has health problems.

Step 3
Examine the shell for signs of wear. Avoid any turtles with peeling, cracked or discolored shells. Look at the shell in relation to the size of the turtle. If the animal seems much too large for its shell, choose another. Shell shrinkage is an indication of undernourishment.

Step 4
Study the turtle's movements, watching for any imperfections. You can spot a turtle with a fractured leg by the way he favors it, for example. Look closely for swelling and injuries on the body.

Step 5
Watch the turtle's response when you pick it up. Healthy specimens normally retract into their shells when being handled. A turtle that makes no attempt to hide when touched is likely to be unhealthy.

Step 6
Listen intently while holding the turtle near your ear. Wheezing or "clicking" noises can indicate respiratory illness.

Scientific Classification:Trachemys Scripta Elegans

Common Name: Red-Eared Slider or Florida Turtle
Geographical: Native to United States(south).They can now be found all over the world. The Red-Eared Sliders have been introduced by people who bought them as pets and when they decided they didn't’t want to keep them anymore they released them in freedom. That is a big problem. For example: in southern Europe Red-Eared Slider competes for survival against the cistude of Europe. And cistude is now in danger of extinction. Please, DO NOT RELEASE YOUR TURTLE IN THE WILD.
Size: They can grow up to 30cm(11.8 inches). Male sliders grow between 6-10 inches and females between 10-12 inches.
Life span: In captivity they can live up to 20-40 years. Some individuals have lived more than 50 years, but only if you have provided the proper care for them. In the wild they can get 20 years.
Description:Male res have long, thick tales and they also have elongated front claws. They tend to be more brightly colored than females and are smaller. Females have short front nails and short, skinny tails. Female's cloaca is located closer to the carapace than in males. They are larger and more darkly colored than males. All RES have a reddish patch of skin behind their ear area. The toes on their legs are connected by a membrane(both,male and female). RES are usually good natured turtles. They enjoy basking. Although they are usually docile, they will bite if provoked.
Breeding: Females can produce up to three clutches of 4 to 23 eggs in a single year.
Habitat:Red-Eared Sliders live in ponds, streams, rivers and lakes. They need fresh water. They prefer calm waters with soft bottoms and dense vegetation. They need a freshwater aquarium with a warm dry land area for basking and a large warm water area for swimming.
Preferred Temperature:Water area: 21.1°C-26.6°C(70°F-80°F). Land area:
28°C-30°C(80°F-90°F).
Food habits:Omnivores. They prefer non-vegetarian food when young.
