    ********r:

perhaps not 'multi-cultural' in the strictest sense. i would suggest that we have a number of 'sub-cultures' existing under the framework of the main 'Filipino culture'

ok sub-cultures... which have different levels of indecency. how will CAIB regulate that?

    But all can agree that:
    1. having *** in public is INDECENT!
    2. dancing NUDE in public is INDECENT!

    What else?

Let's not forget that the Christian conservatives and moral hypocrites have their way of imposing their values and beliefs on local society.

If the CAIB is true to its purpose, they should also go against priests who are guilty of molesting children within city limits. Molesting children is an indecent act after all.

Oh yes, the CAIB and its supporters have not really defined "indecent" and "indecency" effectively until now. At least one local columnist acknowledged that.

    Priests molesting children is INDECENT.

The CAIB won't act on that as long as its people are close to the church.

If the CAIB is to regulate everything, they will have to violate people's civil rights and privacy.

Like you said, we are a multi-cultural society.I think you should respect how a certain culture exist and its norms associated with it before you can even compare it to the American way of life. What is probably decent for America is indecent for our culture here. Yes, it is a SOCIETAL NORMS - as you want to call it. If you can remember, it is indecent for women to wear bikinis in the 1950's up to the 1970's until SOCIETAL NORMS changes the way women wear their bikinis today.

I'm sure it would be even harder for you if you were to run CAIB. It's not easy because they are balancing the SOCIETAL NORMS between the conservatives and the liberals. What CAIB can do is to control what is too much and what is still acceptable to society. Forget about your wishlist, you wouldn't have that benefit as far as the current administration is concern.

I saw some kids (boys aged 7-9 years old) playing Final Fantasy XIII and among the characters I saw was Vanille, the overly sexualized girl of the game.

I wonder what the moral hypocrites have to say about children being exposed not to violence in video games, but to characters that are simply too sexy and "looking indecent".

Maybe the CAIB would want access to Facebook to regulate Cebu City users and prevent them from doing something like what was reported below

What was reported on the news is no longer the jurisdiction of CAIB. There are other agencies that will apprehend those that uses the Net for their selfish interest. The culprit was arrested without the help of CAIB or other agency similar to CAIB in Metro Manila. Don't be hard on yourself by thinking that CAIB has the absolute authority against what is indecent, lewd or acts that is not normal. If you have children and your children are looking at an overly sexualized girl on the internet, would you blame CAIB for that or you would just discipline your children and teach them what is good or decent and what is bad or indecent. It's your call what is right or wrong, what is extreme or not.

Maybe you can convince the local moralists I know with all of that. They strongly believe that the CAIB is the absolute authority against indecency not just for Cebu City but for the entire island itself (one of their moralist allies suggested a province-wide CAIB). They also believe that the CAIB should have the power to ban porn sites, access bank accounts of prostitution establishments, censoring the internet, etc.

They are strong supporters of the CAIB, and they believe that the currently closed agency deserves more power than it ever had.
