Thread: Classic Films

    Default Classic Films

I enjoy watching classical movies...and thus, trying to start a collection of dvds & vcds of them..I like them because they are timeless, some are very much still famous until now and purely original (to the fact that they came early, hehe)

some movies that I have enjoyed watching numerous times are..

-The Sound of Music (well the best ever I've seen so far..the soundtracks are entertaining and touching).

-Casablanca - (Humprey Bogart and Ingrid Bergmann were a good team..This movie proved to be the most popular love story and definitely not the usual "happily ever after" ending.)

-Breakfast at Tiffany's - (one of Audrey Hepburn's best...the song "Moonriver" even won an Oscar)

So guys, what's your fave classical movie(s)..and/or what do you think of them?

Singing in the Rain, My Fair Lady, the Music Man, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Kismet... some I enjoy in addition to your list.

I also enjoy a good swashbuckler!... the 1952 version of Scaramouche with Stewart Granger comes to mind

i saw gone with the wind last month. very nice, almost 4 hours ang runtime.

gone with the wind - this 1939 film won 10 academy awards, impressive. i've always wanted to watch this movie before but didn't have the opportunity. watching it for the first time was a pleasant experience. it's a long movie, an almost four-hour epic, an adaptation of margaret mitchell's novel of the same title (which i haven't read). i'm still in awe watching the legendary and iconic characters of scarlett o'hara (vivien leigh) and rhett butler (clark gable). both actors are now dead.

my favorite part was the ending of part one with the following lines from scarlett:

As God is my witness, as God is my witness, they're not going to lick me! I'm going to live through this, and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again - no, nor any of my folks! If I have to lie, steal, cheat, or kill! As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again.

great movie. it was never overrated for nothing. i give it an 8/10. you can actually visit the movies official site: www.franklymydear.com

Citizen Kane -- Best movie of all time, not only for its bold experimentation in terms of technological innovation but also for its being a landmark film about the media (yellow journalism, etc)

Roman Holiday -- for the kilig factor. Audrey Hepburn

My Fair Lady -- for the Pygmalion and Galatea theme

The Best Years of Our Lives -- for the irony of the title and the fact that after the war, no one comes out victorious

Sabrina -- Audrey Hepburn. Need I say more?

... i love the classics. there's simply so many more of them to be watched.
