CEBU, Philippines - The Task Force Ting has arrested four men, including the alleged mastermind, in the ambush of businessman Nicolas Ting. Police hope they can shed light on a separate ambush that killed Nicolas’ elder brother Manuel.
This “big development” of the police surfaced yesterday as the family finally laid Manuel to rest.
Cebu City Police Office director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador refused to divulge further information regarding the arrests and said that the task force’s operations are still underway for the arrest of other suspects in the twin cases.
Comendador said that one of his men, SPO1 Raul Cosido of the Theft and Robbery Section, was injured during the arrest of one of the mastermind’s accomplices.
Cosido was driving a patrol car together with other policemen when he accidentally hit a concrete post in the downtown area yesterday morning. He was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.


Comendador announced to the media last night that whether the other suspects are arrested or not, they will present the arrested ones today before the public.
Meanwhile, tight security was implemented by the Ting family during the burial yesterday from the moment Manuel’s body was taken out of St. Peters Memorial Chapel in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City up to his burial at the Angelicum Garden of Angels in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
The media was not allowed to take footage of the requiem Mass held at the memorial chapel at 8 a.m. yesterday but were eventually allowed to cover the burial from a distance.
Police personnel from Cebu City and Mandaue City were also deployed to secure the chapel and the cemetery. Personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation were also seen yesterday during the burial.
Confetti and flowers were thrown by employees and friends from the top of the Parklane Hotel when the body was briefly taken there. Manuel owned the hotel.
Manuel was ambushed by a lone assailant while he was driving his car in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City, last June 22. He died of more than 10 gunshot wounds to the head and other parts of the body.
Less than 24 hours before that, his brother Nicolas, 70, was also ambushed by an assailant while the victim was also driving his car in Mandaue City.
With these incidents, Rev. Fr. Raul Buhay of the Order of Augustinian Recollect and celebrant of the burial Mass hopes that the family will not take justice into their own hands.
“Some people may have played with other persons but let God be God. We really hope for the family to recover from this loss of Manuel Ting and continue to live his ideals among them. May his loss be a gain to the family,” Buhay said.
Buhay, a close fiend of the family, said that Manuel has done his best, has proven himself and has raised good children.

Ting nephew "ordered" ambush over P20M debt

CEBU, Philippines - The gunman was a 16-year-old, and the alleged mastermind was a nephew who owed the victim P20 million.

That, in summary, was the conclusion of the police investigation on the ambush that left businessman Nicolas Ting injured in Mandaue City last June 21.

Larry Ting, son of Nicolas’ late elder brother, was identified by Edwin Juab, founder of the notorious Trece Hudas Gang, as the one who hired him last December 3 to gun down Nicolas.

Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, Regional Intelligence Division chief and designated head of Task Force Ting, and Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador, presented to the media yesterday the four persons they arrested.

Aside from Larry and Juab, also arrested was the gunman Mark (real name withheld for being a minor), who was tasked by Juab to kill Nicolas. Jordan Miral, driver of the motorcycle, was also caught.

Larry is involved in a lumber business and was resting inside his house in Barangay Humay-humay, Lapu-lapu City when officers of the CCPO’s Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) led by Chief Insp. George Ylanan arrested him.

Comendador said that right after the ambush, they received information from Barangay Ermita that Juab was involved in the shooting.

The Theft and Robbery Section led by Sr. Insp. Bonifacio Garciano caught Juab last Monday evening in Ermita while playing mahjong. He later admitted his participation and told the police that Larry hired him to kill Nicolas for P100,000, which was later increased to P200,000.

After two failed attempts on the life of Nicolas, he got in touch with Mark, a “known” criminal in Lapu-Lapu. Mark was arrested early afternoon last Tuesday. He had with him a caliber .45 pistol with seven live ammunition. The Lapu-Lapu City Police said he was responsible for at least three shooting incidents in the city.

Later that afternoon, TRS operatives arrested Miral in Ermita. Buenafe said that Larry most probably wanted Nicolas killed as he could no longer pay his P20-million debt.

Mark did not get money for the job. If the report was true, he was only made to drink beer and take illegal dugs before the shooting.

Efforts are still underway to arrest the person who shot Nicolas’ brother, Manuel, who was slain last June 22. The gunman was positively identified by at least four witnesses not only from the artist’s sketch but also from an available photograph. (FREEMAN NEWS)

Si Miral nga gikuhaan unta sa iyang habig nagdumili paghatag og kasayuran sa maong krimen sanglit gipugngan siya sa iyang abogado.
