I don't care if you're a math genius sa Cebu.
If you don't use it, you'll lose it.

Faet kaayo diri mangita work kung poor imong English or at least can try or at least show you're trying your hardest. Mahulog ra jud ug landscaper mangamuhan or cook adto sa kusina or drycleaner ba hinuon sa luyo. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

If you graduate from the bundok province, let's say elementary pero bisan crooked ang English pero naninguha jud, dili mauwaw mubuka sa mouth to communicate in English, you'll do fine.

Bisan sales lady sa grocery store whose job is to stock goods, kailangan mag-prepare ug report every now and then. Bisan pud bakery attendants. And it's not impossible nga mahimong grocery manager who make more than $50k a year. With great work etiquette, great attendance, dili reklamador kay mga puti diri perti ka reklamador bisan gamay, not impossible jud kay if they see you have potential, naa man training. Forget about college graduate in the Philippines who can't lift a broom kay college graduate lage.

To speak English is not trying to become an American. Not only Americans speak English. The British, the Australians... If you find your self in Norway airport and have questions, you don't speak Norwegian (unless of course you know how) to ask questions do you?

The English language has become the universal medium. Like or not.... kay bisan bitaw Bisaya ta, we didn't have any choice when politics back then decided to make Filipino as our national language (of course, it is Tagalog and to make everyone happy nga dili daw puros Tagalog kay sagul sagul daw).

It would have been so much more difficult I would think if my Calculus was taught in Tagalog (or Filipino).

How would you translate deeper and advanced medical terminology in Tagalog? If it was, there is no way I would have gone far in the field where I work at (medical facility here in the US).

To be Filipino is to be competitive worldwide. Even the S Koreans have recognized that. The Communist Chinese have been very active in attracting English teachers to teach their people. It is not to become westernize but to be more competitive. Of course, they have the manpower, great labor force who are very focused. Add to their resume, to speak English freely?

The only people that I find so amazing are the Japanese. They have opened up a little to learn English too. That's why if you are a person who speak fluently both in English and Japanese..... being a translator could get you a very luxurious job with top Japanese executives. Just a translator is a good job.

If I am to speak with my native relatives.... who can speak just a few English words in the province, I do not think it will do me any good at all. That would be foolish of me kay I can speak Cebuano kay lumad ko.

To get my point across.... saying these words in English are much easier than Cebuano or Tagalog.

I might end up saying 'lumilipad ang langgam' and nobody would understand my point.

Because I was born and raised in Cebu, my Tagalog is worse than Pacman's mother. My English is not that great either but I work hard to improve it. Hopefully better than the uneducated Americans here and at least sound like an educated Filipino.

A lot of people say they are so Pro Filipino but when I look at the clothes, the food, the movies they watch, the antics, actions are not very Filipino to me. They say one thing but act the opposite of what they are saying.

^^ sus agree gyud ko ani.. daghan kaau PRO PINOY daw cla pero ang gipangsul.ob:
gusto gyud ug branded, dress to kill kaau diri sa may IT park dayon show off sa ilang Lacoste, LV bags, VS perfumes.. dli gyud mosul.ob ug shoes made by marikina kay adto gyud sa NIKE, Lacoste.. etc!! W T F!!

i was born in the land of promise and grew up in queen city of the south. i can speak bisaya kay bisaya gyud akong mga ginikanan but worked hard to learn the language since grammar school for i know it would merit me someday. learning the international language would be a plus factor to be competitive in the real world.

there's nothing wrong with that. Nindot nuon arun mas ma bihasa or mas ma practice ug sulti ug English arun maka tabi na ug straight English arun di pud ta ma ignoranti labi na inig ka trabaho, kay gamit kaayo ni. Kung naa palay tagalog or bisaya sa business writing, no need to learn English.

Since English is the universal language, we need to start learning how to speak and write in English for us to be effective in communicating most especially to other nationalities.

Speaking and Learning the language is not the basis in being a Filipino.
