    Default Trail Running

Endurance training last May 23, 2010 from Guadalupe to Mt. Babag. Everytime there is a downhill part, I would run down the trail and it is a good exercise and a little bit extreme. Know this that one side of the trail is the hillside while the other side is the awning or cliff and one misstep is not a part of the script.

    Default Home-made Alcohol Stove

An alcohol-fed stove made by bushcrafter Ernie Salomon of Camp Red. Made of a discarded softdrink aluminum can, the volume of flame can be controlled by a plate valve which can be adjusted manually.

    Default Spoon Carving 101, 16 May 2010

The Trailhawk demonstrates to Boy Toledo and Ernie Salomon how to make a useful tool for survival with a knife, in this case, a wooden spoon carved from a hard piece of driftwood locally known as "lubas". Work area is somewhere in the foothills of the Babag Mountain Range in Cebu, PI.

Wood material: Local hardwood called "lubas"
    Cutting tool: Mantrack jungle knife

    Chopping to the desired shape

    Scraping away unwanted thickness

    Gouging out the spoon head

Hardest part of the work and most delicate

    Cutting away the rough edges

The spoon and the cutting tool

A gnarled portion on the right chipped itself away.
I'd still say it's a nice piece of work.

See the rest of the pics here.

    Default Bushcraft Knife

Gills and I have a swap deal and now I have one of his prized knife blanks made of T-5160 steel. I decided to polish off and fine-tune the shape of the tang to my specs and so I made an outline of the knife in its original shape on the paper.

What I did is I shade the part that has to be done away including the punching of two holes into the tang to secure the scales later. Below is the result of the rounding off of the tang and the holes.

Good question. I go for the traditional material like wood or maybe adhere bits of an albino carabao horn into the wood.

Default Cooking in Bamboo, Part 1

Doing bushcraft cooking in the wild side of the Buhisan Watershed Area, Cebu, Philippines on May 30, 2010. You might heard of rice being cooked inside bamboo but I insisted to cook milled corn which have not been done anywhere else in the world.

Will post Part 2 and Part 3 later. Please pardon the carabao English.
