I just thought this might be of help to any one who is puzzled about mixed breeds, pure breeds, etc... I'll shoot first:


If the sire of the puppy were an "X" breed, and the dam were a product between "X" and "Y" breed; would it be correct to say that the breed of the said puppy is an "X" breed, and not an "XY" breed? Or would you rather consider it mixed breed?

still mixed breed.

simply because the puppy is a product of a non-pure bred dog.

err, i modify my statement above.

"the puppy is NOT a product of (recognized) pure breed parents."

yes. because as per your example, it is indeed a mixed breed. you cant call that "pure", do you?

And then there's also this 50% X, 50% Y breed. Or 75% X, 25% Y breed.

Any explanation on this?

And how are we gonna determine if such animal is more of this breed and less of that breed, as some pet sellers would claim?
