You block the host, not the protocol in the hosts file therefor you do not need http:// ... like so

127.0.0.1   youtube.com

instead of

127.0.0.1   http://youtube.com

mmm i thought no one will reply its been a long time since i post this im using a norton firewall now on a domain setting before work group lang norton firewall will block anythying you put on restricted site wether www, http blah blah.........but there is drawback ... i still prefer the host block way okay gonna try your sugestions now

ok guys sowi most of you are correct my alignment got me all wrong even without the special*... just put like this

127.0.0.1 youtube.com
127.0.0.1 *.youtube.com
127.0.0.1 movies.yahoo.com
127.0.0.1 video.yahoo.com


make sure its row in straight line
