British aerospace firm still prefers the Philippines as site of its $40-M Asian manufacturing facility

DAVAO CITY—The head of the Board of Investments (BOI) here claimed that a British aerospace company has assured the Philippines that the country was the preferred site of its manufacturing facility of galleys and other items of future Airbus planes.

Gil Dureza, chief of three BOI regional offices, said the British Aerospace (BAE) told the BOI in November last year that the Philippines was its final choice of the country where it would put up its $40-million facility.

It was the latest communication sent by BAE after a lull of several months, when in January last year the company communicated to Philippine investment officials that it has included the country on the short list of five countries in Asia to host its production plant for plane parts. The communication was relayed by the British Embassy that time.

Dureza said his regional office has recommended three locations in Davao region as probable sites: the Hijo Port town in Madaum, Tagum City, already awarded the accreditation of the Philippine Export Processing Zone; Santa Cruz town and Digos City, both of Davao del Sur.

Dureza previously told business reporters here last year that Davao City was mentioned by BAE as highly preferred.

Dureza said that the BOI in Manila said the briefing paper of BAE stated that the proposed manufacturing facility would produce “galleys and other items for the next generation of Airbus aircraft”.

The galley is the area passengers first see upon boarding, an Internet posting said. The galley has counterspace that stores meals and drawers containing ice and sodas or plates and glasses.

The company is a leading UK designer and manufacturer of aircraft- interior products and solutions for the commercial, business jet and military aircraft markets, according to the project brief given to the BOI.

Dureza said the company “is in the midst of manufacturing the most advanced series of new generation of passenger aircraft most especially the Airbus 380, the single largest passenger aircraft to date.”

The BOI said BAE is one of the major contractors and partners in the European Air Defense System (EADS).

The company has inquired into the BOI if the prospective sites have available support infrastructures, support industry and details on transportation network. BAE would like to know the city’s road network, the “typical costs and transit times for both passenger and freight services to nearest airport and seaport;” the airports and seaports, specifically their distance from the potential facility and the details of both the airport and the seaport handling capacity; and the shipping costs from local seaport to nearest seaport to Toulouse, Marseilles, France.

The company would also like to know the details of the support industry, and include the name of the company, contact details, capacity of firms engaged in the manufacture of metal, machined parts, fabricated metal parts, electrical work like loom or harness manufacture, electrical cable printing, plastics, vacuum-formed parts, composite and injection molding.

nag skwela ko diria sa cebu for 4 years den sa una sige ko balik2 before ko ga college..na lingaw jd ko sa cebu..pero pag try nko ug adto sa davao last summer with my friends na nag skwela sa up mindanao..4 nights 3 days pa lang gani..na in love nako sa ka nindot sa davao..depende ra jd na sa tao..pero if nature lover kah..davao city the best..peoples park pa lang daan..paksit nah..nindot kaau suruyan maski 20 mins ra ko ka suroy didto since by 10.30 pm i close na ang park..

bro, sosyalon tan-awon and kan-anan sa davao, pwo ang presyo mao ra... sosyal jud mga kan-anan ddto pero barato rjud keu mupareho ra ang price sa sosyal na kan-anan kun e compare sa pungko2 dri sa cebu...hehe...sa davao halos tanan kan-anan unlimited rice... hehe^^ ka try kOg eat ddto na unlimited rice for only 10 pesos...sa isa nana ka nndOt na kan-anan... =)

Cebu - beaches, malls, music, adventures, the people and culture. theres a lot to offer.

i think davao is fine, dako lang jud ang lugar. like kng mo ad2 ka ug isa ka mall to another mall, taas pa kaau ang travelan.

ang nindot sa davao, naay non aircon taxi. save kaau esp kng ok ra ang weather.

i just noticed, sauna ang mga taga davao, mag bisaya man jud, i used to visit there mga 1990's like bag.o pa open ang victoria mall, ang sikat pa sauna ky gaisaon and NCC. pro karon, mga tao did2 nagka hilas na esp mga tao na cgeg tagalog. just my observation though.

All you have to do is explore all the beautiful places in cebu and compare it to davao.. davao is a nice place daghan kaayo didto masuroyan nga mga tourist spot pero compare sa cebu, i think mas daghan sa cebu. and also when you talk about work and salary,cebu can give you better offer.

I've been to davao, gensan, cdo and cebu pabalik balik since elem and college but i prefer to live here in cebu. While i was in davao i noticed among mga neighbors nga can afford ari man sa cebu paeskwelahon sa ila mga parents bisan duna na ateneo sa davao. Lagyo lang gyud ila malls didto tuyuon, kasuway sad ko nakuotan sa davao sa um pa ko eskwela, kilid sa gaisano during lunch break rush hour og padung sa illustre gisundan mi musabay sad mga kiriwan og kamot, daghan pa gyud mangingilad sa atanganan og sakyanan pasumangil lang patudlo asa sakay mahibung lang ka sa unahan manaug.

I remember ako classmate sa c.eng'g diha sa um downtown pa pag uli niya udto gisabayan siya og holdaper unya wala man siya dala kwarta nasuko giingnan siya sa sunod pagdala og kwarta ha.

Mingawan man gihapon ko sa davao although daghan na mga malls. Last nako adto nisuroy ko sa bajada,usp-obrero ngadto sa agdao, didto sa peoples park og san pedro, victorias og sm.lahi gyud ang kaalegre sa cebu. Bisan asa pa siguro duna gyud mga kiriwan og kamot, samot pa diri cebu nga daghan mga dayo gikan mindanao og kasilinganan nga mga probinsya.
