dili ko master or expert ha pero tubagon ko ni.

the purpose is simply from the word itself, to diffuse.. since the bare light from the flash is very harsh that might give strong shadows and highlights on your subject. putting a diffuser shall give a quite pleasing output when the light reaches the subject.

If canon imo camera unya built-in flash imo gi-mean wlay kwenta ang diffuser ky magkipat-kipat pa usa moboto.
