I work in a call center.
I'm happy, but not contented (I don't think anybody is truly contented).

This is my 6th call center. 2 years ago, I was earning less than 200 pesos a day with only 1 day off. No benefits, just that. Worse, I work out in the streets under the raging sun. I stayed in that job for more than a year.

Nung nalaman ko na may trabaho na mag-e-English ka lang, sugod agad. Sa dami ng pinag-aplayan ko, walang tumanggap sa akin. I was so frustrated na parang nasabi ko: "Ganito pala ako ka-bobo"?

So I decided to work more, and finally natanggap ako sa isang call center. 8k/month, naku! Lubos na ligaya ang nakamit ko.
Then within 5 months I realized I could earn more, call center after call center, I grew bored and unsatisfied.

Guess what? I'm now with a company that pays only 11k/month (basic) that doesn't even let me go on leave 'til one year from when I got hired. Not even much for career growth nothing compared to the company I've been with that offered promotion as soon as within one month of employment, that paid me 1k/day, that gave me a lot more career opportunities; and more importantly, there are a lot of other FAR BETTER jobs out there that I know I can get.

Why do I settle with this not-so-good job?
Because of the discipline I'm trying to teach myself, because I realized the world is round. If you're interested, read more:

I've been wanting to start this thread but I think marami nang nakaka-alam nito, and I couldn't find a good thread to put this in as an appropriate response. Sorry for the long-a** response.

My girlfriend asked me: "How long will you grow your hair?"

I grew my hair just because I wanted to, I didn't even know how long I wanted it to grow. It's long enough to be tied up right now. I answered, "Right, I don't even know."

It's almost exactly like: "How far do you want to go?"

Right now, you're probably aiming for something. Be it a rearset, a new pipe, paintjob for your bike, or any type of modification - that, most usually, costs money.
So you save up, work hard, and count the days down 'til the 15th or the 30th. Yay! I could finally buy something new for my bike.

The question is, how far do you want to go?

You probably don't know. You probably don't know when you'll stop modifying your bike, or when you'll be satisfied with your life. We all want to be rich, but we don't know "how rich" we want to be. If you think you know, like right now, think again.

I could probably make my bike the town's best-modified bike with the aid of money, of course. But does that stop me from wanting more? I'm probably going to aim for a new bike, then when I get it, a new car, then when I get it, another, then a house, then a business, then airplanes, then planets.. etc.

So is there a limit? Nope. Like I said, the world is round. Sooner or later, you will ask for something, and then something. And something else. You do that because you want to be satisfied, the problem is knowing what will satisfy you.

So to keep this short (if it isn't long yet for you), what I want to say is know what you want. Know where you want to go. Know how far you want to go. You will, maybe, realize how long or what it will take you to get there along the way.

Here is one good post from Wide_Load one story that displays my point perfectly. Click to view single-post.

    BTT:
So I am not at the point of being contented yet, but I want a lot of things. Settling with the company I'm with right now doesn't mean I stopped; I just slowed down. May pera ako hindi ko muna binubuhos sa motor, baka dumating ako sa point na maubos na ang pera ko kaka-modify at hindi pa ako ma-satisfy. Plus I want another bike. Plus a car. And so on..

Satisfaction is the product of appreciation, IMO.

It all boils down to being happy. You do what'll make you happy, so it doesn't matter how you do it - just Be Happy.
