if you want image quality, well they are both the same...build quality d300s wins, price d90 wins...both performs very well it's just a matter of how are you going to burn your money...in short! kung dato ka d300s jud nindut, kung sakto ra aw d90 dili ka magmahay hehehe...

First, you really can't compare the D90 to a D300s. You can't compare apples to oranges. Cliche, pardon me. It's really obvious that the D300s outclass the D90 in almost all department. Everything you need in a camera in terms of features is in the D300s.

However, the D90 and all Nikon camera models below it teach the person behind the camera two things: discipline and adjust. It's like driving a car without ABS technology on a hairpin at 120kph. You struggle to keep the car on the road. And, that is fun.

buy any of the cameras you mentioned... then keep on shooting... because even you have a D3X, all the "N" lenses, the fastest cards, the best filters, but himuon lang ug decoration or maybe shoot sunrise and sunsets unya e-edit ang colors para mo purple and violet ang sky then your gears are just nothing... might as well buy a Lumix

buy the time you develop your passion and desire about the art then you will understand and know what you will need

i sincerely appreciate the wisdom in your advise bro. but my purpose in this thread was not to compare the two for just mere apples to oranges thing, i was seeking opinions in helping me decide which one to choose between the two. i am attracted to those two models actually, and i just wanted to hear those in the know...real people i cud interact with rather than just browse from dpreview and such. thank you sir.

depende sad sa gamit bro. coz 51 points with 11 cross types could really help in focus tracking. the main drive sa nikon with regards to the number of AF points in D300s is it's use in action/sports photography. so if the TS is into that then go ahead and buy the d300s if your budget permits which i assume it does kay gi-consider man nimo. but if portraiture lang ka then settle for the d90 and buy the most wonderful lens. hehehe... the trinity ba ron sama sa gi recommend sa uban. now when you're thinkng na kaya man sa budget ang d300s plus trinity lenses then might as well jump na diretso to FF cams. D700 plus 24-70 and 70-200. payts na kaayo. hehe

sir, i have encountered covering situations that do not belong to sports but might as well be action category. i am talking about school awarding ceremonies like graduation or recognition. awardee oftentimes walk too fast on stage. i want to shoot fast and shoot the handshake, the moment of accepting the certificate, i want to capture the expression on the faces as well...these things happen in split second. thing is, sometimes, we are torn between capturing a picture or taking a photograph....
