However, the D90 and all Nikon camera models below it teach the person behind the camera two things: discipline and adjust. It's like driving a car without ABS technology on a hairpin at 120kph. You struggle to keep the car on the road. And, that is fun.

    Cheers!

you spelled the words out from my mouth.

i sincerely appreciate the wisdom in your advise bro. but my purpose in this thread was not to compare the two for just mere apples to oranges thing, i was seeking opinions in helping me decide which one to choose between the two. i am attracted to those two models actually, and i just wanted to hear those in the know...real people i cud interact with rather than just browse from dpreview and such. thank you sir.

D700 plus 24-70 and 70-200. payts na kaayo. hehe
sir, i have encountered covering situations that do not belong to sports but might as well be action category. i am talking about school awarding ceremonies like graduation or recognition. awardee oftentimes walk too fast on stage. i want to shoot fast and shoot the handshake, the moment of accepting the certificate, i want to capture the expression on the faces as well...these things happen in split second. thing is, sometimes, we are torn between capturing a picture or taking a photograph....

let me present this quote from the website of henry's camera:

For those moaning about the Nikon D90 Video and exposure weaknesses have faith, Nikon will soon be exchanging the Nikon D300. Tentatively named Nikon D500 this is a 1.5x crop factor, pro/enthusiast spec camera with weather sealing, liveview, built-in flash and video mode. The Nikon D500 seems to land at 15.5 megapixels (perhaps not sony?). The Video capabilities are still 24 fps but with the added benefit of full manual control over exposure. With video feature that is on par with Canonīs 5DmkII, the Nikon D500 has the potential to see a much larger following since both pricepoint, cropfactor and Nikonīs flash handling tip the scales in Nikonīs favor. Expect the Nikon D500 to hit the stores late Q1 2009.

i never thought D90 had exposure weaknesses to such an extent as to call it a weakness.

if this is the case then opt for the faster fps

I guess, you have to read my post again. "..The D300s outclass[es] the D90 in terms of features..." Isn't that enough to help you choose which of the two you want to have?

By the way, figures of speech nang apples and oranges. How could you choose if you don't compare?
