I have used these cams before. Akong verdict, when it comes to image quality they are the same, the significant difference is the frame rate.

D90 - 3 frames/sec
D300s - 7 frames/sec

Kung newbie ka why not go for a d5000 or a D3000?

That depends. If you take photographs for a living, the D300s is sulit.

The D300s does not have any scene modes (portrait, landscape, etc.) while the D90 has. The D300s is heftier and more weather-sealed (magnesium alloy body). It has more AF points (51 - 15 are crosstype) vs the D90 (11 - only 1 is crosstype). The D300s has a better meter system BUT the D90 performs a biiit better in low light. And there's a lot more.

Of course, the D300s is twice the price of a D90.

sounds like i can use the price difference for a separate light meter. i am not fond of using speedlights, i prefer to shoot with ambient light..which one will serve me better then?
