Isn't that just the way with most of our politicians? Promises here, promises there. When once elected, the promises are immediately forgotten. We have a personality-based politics that doesn't really put much focus on platforms, except as a vehicle for attaining power.

Take GMA and her former party-mates, for instance. During the election campaign, GMA promised that she would push for a federal parliamentary form of government. Her party-mates, or rather, those who ran with her under the "K-4" banner, were supposed to share this aim with her, she being the standard-bearer of "K-4".

Once elected, however, her former party-mates, who are now senators, seem to have forgotten what was supposed to be their party's platform of governance. Instead of supporting her advocacy for the parliamentary system, and advancing it in the Senate, they are now the ones foremost in putting up stumbling blocks to it. This is unethical, considering that her promises to the people are also supposed to be their promises.

But again, in our personality-based politics, this is common practice and is not even penalized, no matter how deceitful it is. These politicians are outrightly deceiving the public when they have no intention of delivering on their promises. That's because we don't hold them up to a higher standard. There is no mechanism in the law which will oblige them to adhere to their party platforms, and penalize them if they don't.
